Chef Solitaire: USA

Fairly typical solitaire game with a story that evolves as you go. The voice acting is fine- easy to understand and well done in terms of inflection and with the right "feels". Game runs fine out of the box on Windows 10 v. 22H2 64 bit Pro- no compatibility or tweaking needed. Steady frame rates on an i9 9900K with a 2070 RTX super. Not many settings to adjust- though I do recommend turning the music down before you begin. The music is pleasant enough, but the default setting is a bit loud to my ears. The minigames that pop up during play (an extra card added to the deck) can be a fun little breather, or an annoyance. I found them to be a mix of both- they do not seem to have any effect on cash earned or "luck" for the rest of the hand- just an interruption in card play. Luckily, you can skip them if you don;t want to play them. The minigames in the main menu are more challenging, if you are looking for that- they also appear to have no effect on the main game. Just something to so if you like more challenging solitaire. You can replay any level at any time- farming perfects can be done on any level (easiest on the first level of the first map). You do not need to get a perfect (clear all cards) or 3 stars on every level. If you want to- go for it. If not, just skip that level and come back to it later, after you've been able to buy some upgrades in the in-game store (in-game cash, no real world money needed). Once you buy an item, it becomes active and available in every level before or after. The grind is going to be for cash-in-hand. The "earn X-cash" achievements require you to have it all at once- it is not a cumulative total. You can grind for cash the same way you grind for Perfect games- find an easy level and just restart it and replay it over and over. Even if you fail a level, the game does not take cash away from you, it just keeps adding up. Graphics are nothing special but they are pretty enough, though the settings become repetitive after a while. You have to open a new restaurant in all 50 US states, so expect to see the same dining room backgrounds repeatedly. The story isn't that deep, but it fits the game is adds nice flavor to it (Chef's Solitaire- flavor...heh.). It's a fine casual solitaire game- there are some tough levels, but again, don't stress. You can always o go back to them after you've progressed and have upgrades that will make things much easier. Save up to get the wild card first, add the rest before it later. The ones at the bottom of the list are quite useful, and refill their cooldowns quickly. The layouts get more difficult as you go, but upgrades make it difficult to not complete a level and get 3 stars and a Perfect once you open your 8th or 9th restaurant. I haven't gotten far enough to know if levels up into the 20s, 30s and 40s become stupidly difficult, but I do expect the layouts to become more complex and take more careful thinking and strategy to clear. Full price would be fine- on sale it's a steal. It does have Trading Cards- but they drop very slowly. My first card dropped at 3.6 hours of playtime, the second at 5.1 hours of playtime, and at review time I have 7.1 hours of playtime in- waiting for the third card to drop. So- don't expect to idle the game for 4 hours and have all 4 cards dropped. Just play, and they will eventually drop. (quick edit to fix some typos)

Nevada - 1 brings a lot of money

Decent solitaire game with a story.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
