This was a really fun experience for what is essentially solitaire at its core. As someone who dabbles with solitaire when theyre bored, I saw this game, saw the campy 90s PC game visuals, and decided "why not?". It was a good decision, as the more I played it, the more I enjoyed the addictive nature of the solitaire and how the jokers work. The visuals, gameplay and sounds kinda mix well together to create this cohesive experience where everything helps improve the other part. I really enjoyed learning how to get long chains and how to utilize the jokers to my advantage where needed. The RNG but not quite RNG made it feel random but not too frustratingly random. The game gives you setups instead of waiting 20 cards to get something you can use. The story was fine. It was a bit predictable, but it made sense for the game. The pop-ups were genuinely annoying, constantly budding into me and my solitaire games. And yeah, I understand that its supposed to be that way because you are actively ignoring them because of how addictive the killer game is, but as a gameplay thingy, it always just felt like "oh my GOD let me get back to my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ solitaire". Same with the "Developer commentary" thingies that happen, it wasnt as annoying, but it was fairly loud compared to the rest of the game. And it just kinda made me put down the game until it was done, because I couldnt focus on the game when I had 2 people talking in my ear. Overall, I can very much recommend this game for anyone looking for the next "roguelike" card game. Its fun, feels fresh, and has visuals we dont get to see that often. Its also not too long, so yeah. Get it!
I didn't expect this to be as good as it was, but somehow the story in a solitaire game got me hooked.
saw it on sagan hawkes' youtube channel and went OH DAMN I GOTTA PLAY THAT as not only am I an enjoyer of indie horror, solitaire is my time-waster game of choice. a delightfully spooky and 90s themed dungeon crawl with a solitaire twist, which kept feeling engaging and fun to play! took me nearly 8 hours to beat, over the course of two days. definitely a game I'll be coming back to from time to time when I get a solitaire hankering. I'll get a 25+ combo eventually...
I had never played Solitaire before and decided to let myself be tempted by Forbidden Solitaire since I love horror and since I enjoyed Home Safety Hotline (also because the aesthetic reminded me of Goosebumps). This game is so fun and deliciously spooky! The difficulty curve is also perfectly balanced on the first run (you unlock a Hard mode upon completion). Also when you finish it you get a fascinating artbook that explains how the whole development of the game took place in detail. Read everything from end to end. Thanks to both Grey Alien Games and Night Signal for this gem!
quick and fun
It's ok. But for the high price, not worth it. Very short. Was looking forward to this for a while after playing the demo, was expecting a full length game. If the price was lower it would be ok
Fun little throwback of an FMV game. The take on solitaire is breezy and doesn't overstay its welcome while the cinematics and still screens invoke exactly the campy horror spirit they're going for. The pacing stumbles a little towards its end, and eye horror is the cheap pop of body horror, but overall, this is a terrific little thing and highly recommended if you like either FMV games or quirky takes on solitaire.
It's a short game, but it's a very fun little game
IT'S SOLITAIRE. WHY THE F*** IS SOLITAIRE VIOLENT?! So Forbidden Solitaire itches all the right scratches, just like the games before it. Night Signal Entertainment once again manages to nail the analoge horror vibes of their game, while at the same time managing to fulfill that feeling of playing a pre-2000's PC game. The nostalgia, mixed with the horror and humor of all of this being related to solitare, leads to a great game. Of course, I feel I should mention, this game is purely solitaire. The story is fun, and the graphics are fitting for the feel they're attempting to emulate, but don't expect the greatest of graphics with utterly dynamic gaming. They have their own spin with the boss fights and other bits-and-bobs, but it's still solitaire. Bloody, violent solitaire.
I had found this game adorable. Stay with me I know adorable is an odd word to use for a game that is a playable creepypasta. However it is the dedication to make this feel like a random 90s lost game that just so happens to have a mystery behind it that is so charming for me. It has a bit of a love letter feel that really got me excited the moment I saw trailer and watched the husband play the demo and accidently back seat gamed him as someone who is somewhat familiar with the solitaire game used (Tripeaks) to act as the game base. Story wise it has some rather commonly played out tropes that comes with the gaming creepypasta genre but I could push that to the side and enjoy the story being told as it's expressed in varied ways that were engaging. I wanted to also give praise for the option to adjust a particular sound trigger. Gushing aside it is a game that can be somewhat done in a single session unless you are trying to do all the things for achievements. Currently have a NG+ run to just see how that goes and maybe pick up some stuff I missed. However it may also just be a game I come back to despite doing all the things eventually just because it is a bit of a spice up to a solitaire game type. Game gets a bit rough at about mid to end game which is expected but not sure if that will feel worse on NG+ but there is a note to be mindful of the settings as you can put yourself in a lose lose state and be forced to start a new run to adjust the options. Honestly big props for such an amusing crossover of these two studios given their contrasting portfolios.
