About

Winner of Best Indie Game at the 2024 New York Game Awards and nominated multiple times at other ceremonies including The Game Awards and the BAFTA, Chants of Sennaar is a critically-acclaimed puzzle and adventure game developed by Rundisc.
Divided since the dawn of time, the Peoples of the Tower no longer speak to each other, isolated by fear or mistrust. It is said that one day, a Traveler will find the wisdom to break down the walls and restore the balance. Travel the endless steps of a prodigious labyrinth, uncover the truth and unveil the mysteries of this fascinating universe where ancient languages are both the lock and the key.

Inspired by the myth of Babel, discover an enigmatic and vast tower. As the Traveler, delve into a world full of mysteries, where Peoples have grown distant, unable to communicate with each other anymore. Begin your adventure in a prodigious tower inhabited by five distinct Peoples, observe, listen, and strive to mend the bonds of distrust.

With a smart gameplay system, explore and solve various puzzles to uncover the mysteries of five different interconnected languages. Always guided by your trusty notebook, note each symbol, keep track of your surroundings, engage in conversations with people and unravel the meaning of every glyph. Each step will pave your way to the top of the Tower as each word will restore the link between People.

Dive into an enthralling and colorful world full of secrets. Tumble headlong into a beautiful world inspired by impactful European comics authors where every floor of the Tower possesses its own visual identity, supported by distinctive technological levels, architecture and culture. Embark on a poetic and enchanting journey driven by a soul-stirring, lyrical soundtrack, made by Thomas Brunet.

I wish I could play this game for the first time again. I keep using it as an example of how to do a secret language mechanic right in discussions. The story is told through a lot of environmental storytelling and, while the stealth parts can be frustrating, most mechanics support it. I really enjoyed figuring out words and symbols based on context clues, cognates, and some written translations. Having the chance to write down my guesses, then see if they were correct or refine them further, was really neat.
good.
No words to describe this game about words. A masterpiece of art
Nice and a little hard game. It is short, but it is very refreshing with a good story. I recommend it.
.
Very good puzzle gaem
good game, interesting game. The last 3-4 hours it kinda ♥♥♥♥♥ the bed though. The layout of the last proper area was extremely infuriating and I think I did the puzzles in the worst possible way, you can understand what the devs were going for, but the sequential areas just feel like they're in the wrong order. You're stumbling about randomly for so long compared to the other areas, and god help you if you run into something you're supposed to do later. It feels so directionless. After that it doesn't get much better, there's just a lot of chores as well as a lot of stuff that felt really out of place (literally), in a game which had otherwise felt really subtle in its world building. Fortunately though, I think it ultimately does stick the landing despite my frustration with it's last 4th. One nitpick is that I wish the journal didn't tell you the answers. Probably a hot take but I think for me it would've insensitivised me to further engage in the structure and context of each of the languages rather than having a reliable way to find the answers by brute forcing a game of charades.
