Before actually trying this game out I decided to watch the trailer. I came to the conclusion that this is pretty much kiting the game. This is an early access title so clearly it is not final, with that being said this review is only for the current state of the game now. If you like kiting around mobs that get stuck on terrain and are not much of a threat while shooting fireballs, then this is the game for you. The only other useful spell is your ice golem pet who can distract mobs and also get stuck as well. And while there is some enemy variety, the AI is pretty basic but some will actually block/parry your fireball or dodge roll out of the way. Some will use abilities like aoe heal and various melee abilities that can reach you out of melee range. The bigger mobs tend to get stuck on the environment or each other. I believe currently there are three bosses(I think they are bosses or even subboss), each a different golem similar to the one you can summon. The first two were pretty basic and not much of a threat. The second boss had an aoe but I didnt seem to take damage, perhaps the hitbox was off or the graphic effect is just bigger than it should be. The third golem actually killed me with his void zone like areas with lightning bolts. And while there were abilities going on during the fights it was still just kiting while shooting a fireball. I definitely think this game is extremely early access to even critique fairly, as it can be finished within twenty mins in the current state. Until more content and the combat is tweaked I would not recommend as of yet. Follow my curation page for more of my terrible opinions. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Lesstalkmoreplay#curation
Disclaimers and Dragons
This game is super early access. If it were released as is, I doubt even high profile reviewers known for talking about the worst Unity3d asset flips on Steam would even touch it. This game feels like something my friends and I would have dreamed up in High School and it has the polish as such but where the game is now, we would've given up and done something else.
So it's... Norse?
Eh, not really. The story so far is straightforward: Odin told you go get the hammer of Thor so he can reuinite you with Freya. Aside from that, it looks like a bright sunny day in a mountainous region. Lizardmen, "Orcs", and giants abound, there's nothing that reads "Norse" in this.
Well I got a few bucks to spend, what do you do in the game?
Before you spend a few bucks, check yourself. All you're going to be doing is moving backwards and shooting fireballs. It's literally all there is to do. You have a selection of spells but there is no need to put yourself into danger when you can walk backwards and shoot fireballs.
So... avoid the game?
As of now, yes. If this developer is a new programmer and is learning things along the way, this game could end up being a really personal passion project for them and that in turn could end up being fun but part of the game right now is fun enough to consider a game. And the cost of 10 bucks (CAD) for 20 minutes of gameplay is far too expensive.
I was contacted by the developer via Twitch and asked to stream this. And so I did. Despite lack of content, I was very impressed with the visuals. I would like to start off by saying firstly, this game is in it's infant stages. For some to say that it sucks because it is not complete is not fair. It feels like it is a proof of concept run that will be built off of into something that can be great. For those of you expecting this to be Skyrim or Dragon Age, don't bet on it. It's an infant. I played the game in it's entirety. It took me a little over an hour to play through what is currently available. I thought the game looked amazing! The textures and the environment were beautiful. I found myself looking at the trees and rocks in transit to the next point and thinking how amazing they looked. I was hoping for more content to showcase what the developer intended to do with it, even a fetch quest or something along those lines. But I get it, it's early development and that will all come. There were a few effects that really blew me away. Some of the boss moves were awesome. It is short, and it is repetitive, but as I've said before, it's in very early development. I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Games cost money to make. I'm all for supporting and getting the word out there. I recommend that if you want to support the developer and help make the game great, buy the game and give them your input. Negative comments never really helped anyone.
Really good! The combat is fun and fast, easy to use with a lot of action. Great visuals, especially the special fx and monsters. Reminds me a bit of Dark Souls, lookin forward to the full release.
Very enjoyable game for an early access game I was very pleased with what it is,can't wait to see more.
Really fun game to play, was very quick to finish but entertained all the way through. Has some good potential as it's still in very early stages of development. Has a very old school feel to it which I like a lot, was a breathe of fresh air from all the new games we play. It will be very exciting to see where this goes and how it develops.
The game is very early access. But game is super simple to play jump in. The graphic are very beautiful. If your in to action RPG's keep your eye out on this game. Its got alot of promise for the future. I will update my review in the future once the games got more polish too. But it current point I'm leaving a postive review.
I heard about this game after meeting the creator at a local meetup and trying a brief demo. The developer kindly offered to provide a key for me to try the game out and the demo was intriguing, so I decided to give the current version a whirl. I enjoy Norse Mythology and FPS games with RPG/fantasy hybrid elements, so the premise definitely appeals to me. So far, I'm really enjoying the game! As it turns out, the game is a bit more reminiscent of something like Serious Sam in that the focus is on progressing through fairly straightforward levels while battling waves of enemies. The action can get pretty intense, but there is also a surprising amount of strategy based around when to use your various spells. I'm not particularly adept at FPS games despite enjoying them, so I liked that I could often engage with the enemy mobs at my own pace once I became more adept at using my freeze spells and relying on my support NPCs for cover. The game is definitely in an early stage of development, but it's already showing plenty of promise and I think it has a lot of potential to be a gripping, fast-paced FPS full of arcade style encounters with large, varied mobs of enemies. Don't go in expecting Skyrim or Deus Ex levels of complexity, but if you're looking for some simple and fun combat-oriented arcade action give this one a try!
Can see my first impressions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdxHQU1udPQ
Summary
To me this feels more like a prototype. The magic is good, the particles and sounds on the moves looks great. The minnion summon looks good. The game is just missing the meat to go with the potatos, you just get dropped in and there is no story or anything. Once that gets put in it will feel like a good adventure similar to Half Life, Turok etc.
Pros

Runs very smooth.
Pretty models and particles.
Good AI interaction/Moves etc.

Cons

No story.
No map interaction.

My Opinion
Its entertaining for a few minutes. There is no passion to continue as there is no story laid out at the start. The enemy Ai is interesting so its fun to kill them. Once there is a story and some things to interact with on the map. Its interesting just not ready yet.
