One of the best gamebooks of the series, my favourite of the Tin Man ports. I think this book had one of the best stories. I really enjoyed the adventures where you had companions (that didn't die right at the start) and Redswift and Stubb I thought were particularly good ones. Some may not know that a short version of the adventure was published first, in Warlock magazine. Rather than make the road to the snow witch longer in the book version, the adventure actually continues on after her defeat. You move on from the snow lands and revisit some places from previous gamebooks. Dungeon adventures are fine, but I like the indoor/outdoor variety of Caverns of the Snow Witch. The snow witch's crystal caverns have a different feel to say the warlock's firetop mountain, perhaps a more female feel. That f**ing crystal warrior in the middle of the caverns! Basically you have to be too lucky to beat him. I was also disappointed that the original artwork (Gary Ward & Edward Crosby) wasn't colourized. It's my favourite of Tin Man's e-gamebook ports of the original books, though there are probably other original books I like better.
Choose your adventure type game with dice roll based combat. Just when you thought the adventure was over it takes another turn. In my opinion its the best book released thus far 8 / 10
I love love love the Fighting Fantasy game books from the 80's/90's The "choose your own adventure" books were incredible and seeing them transformed on all types of platforms really makes me happy. Please make Warlock of firetop mountain and City of Thieves as well!
I tried the game, died right off the bat. Reloaded and chose another option at the place where I died. Died right away again. I played 26 minutes total, it was not fun.
Caverns of the Snow Witch is a video game adaptation of the Fighting Fantasy book of the same name, a series I have fond memories of playing when I was younger. It plays basically the same, with the exception that the game tracks your stats, items, and dice rolls. It’s not as engaging as playing with the physical book, of course, but it gets the job done. The setting is alright, although I’m personally not a fan of snow or winter themes. Still, there’s some variety, and the story is interesting. Compared to other titles, this one is longer because it’s more linear (you don’t even get a map) and has a lot of combat, which makes it difficult without high starting stats. But if you enjoy the genre, I can recommend it on sale.
Good low replayability interactive e-book-like game where you are the hero. I like those, they remind me of when I was a teenager and was reading the real deal. To compensate for eye-ruining screens, they have included special effects, especially sound effects. Buy only if you like books where you are the hero.
