About
Caverna is the digital adaptation of the board game of the same name created by Uwe Rosenberg. The game has the following game mechanics: Automatic Resource Growth, Tile Placement, Turn Order Claim Action, Worker Placement. The game has a Solomode and Multiplayer option. You can also play against the AI. It is a turnbased game that you can play live but also asynchronously. It can be played with 1-7 players. You have 2 options for the look of the game. The classic board game appearance and our 3D interpretation.
Caverna makes you the head of a dwarf tribe, living in a small cavern.
You cultivate the forest in front of your cavern and dig deeper into the mountain throughout the game. By furnishing rooms in your caverns you make space to grow your tribe and and create new goods from your resources. Deeper into the mountain you will find fountains as well as ore and gem mines. It’s on you to decide how much ore and gems you want to mine, giving you the opportunity to forge weapons and go on adventures; a new way to do things in the game instead of using actions with your workers. Outside your cavern you can clear the forest, cultivate fields, fence pastures and grow crops or breed animals. All this in order to increase your wealth and become the strongest and best tribe leader of them all!

At it's core this is a very well done adaptation of the board game and will be good for people that already know the game and want to play online. However, the tutorial is severely lacking, it tells you to take certain actions but fails to explain "Why" you should take those actions. You learn just some of the base mechanics but do not actually learn how to play the game. Another strong minus point is the lack of on-screen information, hovering over cards and icons should explain what they mean and their use. There is an info box for each card that can be brought up but those do not actually tell you anything. All in all, this game is only truly enjoyable if you have already played the boardgame itself as it barely explains anything or give decent feedback.
Another great digital board game from Digidiced. The computer opponents are tough, I have played several games and have yet to win. The user interface is easy to use, and the game comes with a nice tutorial, and runs great on my Mac mini. I only play against the computer, so I really appreciate a good challenging AI. I would really love to see them add the expansion The Forgotten Folk, and hopefully port some more Uwe Rosenberg games someday.
Good news: The game is playable and the AI is strong. Bad news: The tutorial is a joke—it teaches you almost nothing. The user interface is poor; at least half of the game board is always blocked. Unfortunately, the developers made poor choices with the placement of the "actions" board, as it constantly covers a large part of the main game area. Why not place the actions board on the side or create a bottom bar instead? Yes, you can minimize it and view the actions as text, but that’s more suitable for advanced users who already know what each action tile does. Another issue is the tutorial, which only teaches around 33% of the game mechanics. For the rest, you have to watch a YouTube video or read the physical game manual. I also don’t understand why there’s no animation for the dwarves when they are on a higher level. There’s just an ugly number displayed on the dwarf disc. Conclusion: I like that I can play Caverna digitally against AI, but the lack of a proper tutorial and the poor interface make the game feel half-finished. I'm not sure it's worth the €19 price tag.
Echoing other reviews to reinforce the point: The user interface is terrible, and the tutorial is an uninformative mess, to the point where it actually references concepts and actions it has never actually shown you. It's worth remembering that nearly all Digidiced products are equally bad. I had to try this one because I love the board game Caverna, but no, they've ruined it, too. This studio is an absolute plague on the digitization of beloved board games.
Very solid adaptation -- they did a good job fitting a table hog of a game onto a laptop screen. The tutorial isn't great, but there is a video you can watch to learn the rules, then do only the UI tutorial so you know where everything is, and off you go. I just learned this here and I've held my own against medium AI twice, but haven't won yet. Can't speak to the hard AI yet, but the medium is decent enough to learn against. Thumbs up.
No one plays online.
very well representation of the boardgame, easy to find all the controls/menus, good music, good art.
After play around 3 rounds. I can say this game stay true to the RL board game. Another great game adaptation or translation to Digital game. I myself like the board in 2D view rather than the 3D view but if you like your board in 3D you can i guess. The AI bot are good enough to play single player with. I recommend medium difficulty AI and avoid Easy AI. As i feel Easy AIs are "insulting" best word i can put it haha. let me elaborate.. On easy AI.. an example.. the AI build a dwelling and later delay or skip the growth action.
