Cat Chess

About fifteen centuries ago, humanity devised the noble game of chess. Kings marched, queens dominated the board, knights rode bravely into battle, and generations of players studied strategy, tactics, and endgames. Then, at long last, someone asked the question that had apparently gone unasked for 1,500 years: "What if they were cats?" The result is gloriously ridiculous. The rules remain proper chess, but every piece is a cat. They meow when selected, purr when they move, hiss when captured, and the animations are full of unmistakably feline behaviour. One moment two knights are duelling with cat toys; the next, a rook has somehow defeated another cat using a cardboard box. It is absurd, charming, and completely committed to the premise. What surprised me most is that beneath all the humour is a genuine game of chess. I've already encountered stalemate, threefold repetition, castling, pawn promotion, and all the other mechanics you'd expect. It isn't "chess made silly"—it's simply chess presented with an enormous amount of affection for cats. This is my first game purchase of 2026, and I regret nothing. If you enjoy chess, cats, or preferably both, this little game is a delight. Sometimes the best ideas are not the most complicated ones. Sometimes it only takes one question: "Why did it take humanity fifteen centuries to add cats?"

Super cute!!! We love it!!! We'll keep playing the campaign and hop online more too hehe. It runs okay on the Steam Deck. I hope they release a mobile version soon!

I don't even like chess that much, but this is the one game that finally gives me the same feeling Battle Chess gave me back in the 90s. Thank you :)
