I haven't played anything like this. Every game in this collection is fun and unique piece of art. if you are open to experiment with small (and a bit weird) indie games this is right choice! 10/10
This time Dread X comes with some of the best games in the series yet, and also some of the worst. Very strong highs and some abysmal lows this time around. Scores are in the context of the scope of a Dread X game and compared to the other games in the franchise, I didn't care for the "main" story that bookends the minigames, and the puzzles to unlock more games was more anoying than hard since there where like 2 puzzles, the rest was just runing around with fetch quests. >Disparity of the Dead< 10/10 - One of the best games in all of Dread X collections so far (yet to play 5). It's confusing at first but intriguing and well written. When you figure out what you are suposed to do this becomes a true gem. One of the few games in this entire franchise I would most likely want to play a more expanded and slightly more polished version of. >SPOOKWARE< 9/10 - This is warioware, with spooks and skeletons. It's really nothing more or less than that. Frantic pace, you will probably fail a lot before you figure out what you are even suposed to do, but very enjoyable. If you don't like that kind of frantic microgames, this is not for you. >Submission< 8/10 - The obligatory meta game. Start out as a cute jank creepypasta childrens game, but just when you think you know where this will go it switch things up, and man does it take you on a wild ride. The mechanics in the main part of the game was kind of interesting even if it got a bit repetitive. A few more commands would have been nice. You might see the end as "I have no idea how to finish this game" but I loved it. >SATO WONDERLAND< 8/10 - While you can get the achievement from a bad ending in like 1 minute, I definitly recomend that you try to go for the good ending. Is absolutely worth it. Mascot horror done right. >REACTOR< 7/10 - It's a little obvious from the get go where the story will take you, I mean, remote research base, super wholesome and friendly AI companion, meteor that you need to investigate. You probably called it in the first 10 seconds. But for a smal project like this it was kind of effective and well done. >Bete Gris< 7/10 - You are a maid at a hotel, doing various menial tasks while working yourself up to the penthouse, but nothing weird will happen there right? Really liked this one. >Chip's Tips< 6/10 - A silly spoof of various edutainment games. Trippy visuals that may or may not make you barf. Definitly prefered the devs other games from DreadX1 (the 3D wizard one where you did various incantations with a few words building various spells) and DreadX4 (the monk with a crossbow one), but it's nice to see entirely different games from the same dev. >Matter over mind< 6/10 - Reverse horror where you are a cute little brain parasite blob that tries to escape the facility where you are held. It's mostly just find the color coded scientist with acress to a door, possess them and then find a new target. Not that elaborate but alright for what it is. >Soul Waste< 5/10 - 3D hack and slash platformer. The final boss was a bit anoying since i didn't realize it regenerated health quite quickly at first but that's on me. Not horror, not even cute horror like most of this collection, so it doesn't really feel like it belong here. The controls are also not the best. It's fine. >Bubbo: Adventure on Geralds Island< 4/10 - Your typical creepypasta mascot platformer. Pretty bad controls and doesn't really do anything unexpected. I'm not a huge fan of 3D platformers to begin with so this didn't do anything for me. >EDEN: Garden of the Faultless< 3/10 - Incomprehensible at first, then just boring and anoying. A game where you raise your tamaguchi/pokemon angel and have it race other angels. >Nice Screams at Funfair< 1/10 - Unplayable garbage. Extremely buggy game in the "spooky restaurant sim"-genre where you sell ice cream on a fun fair of the damned. No challange and I have no idea if the jank was intended or not, but if it was it was a terrible idea if it was, and terrible execution if it wasn't. It was very easy at least.
I will review the games individually below.
Soul Waste
Irritating gameplay with no payoff. It's a waste of time.
Submission
Great game with a meta element.
One of the most unexpected jumpscares.

Sato Wonderland
Great atmosphere with an intriguing mystery.
Bete Grise
Great visuals with creepy vibes.
Disparity of the Dead
I didn't like this one at the beginning, but it gets better and better near the end.
Nice Screams
It had some potention, but it falls flat in every aspect.
Spookware
Brilliantly styled game, which has the deserved full release too.
Chip's Tips
Usual Torple Dook piece with a whimsical tone.
Eden
Stylish "monster racer" game, with great graphics.
Matter OVER Mind
I liked this a lot, but the camera angle is not the best. The gameplay is really spot on however.
Reactor
This one was incredibly uninteresting.
Bubbo: Adventure on Geralds Island
Interesting, just what you would expect from an anthology like this.
I’ve bought the bundle with all Dread X Collection Games in a sale for 90% off (or some value like that). After playing 1 (bad) and 2 (very good) I had high expectations for 3, excited that it may be even better! Only to discover that Dread X 3 isn’t like the others. This game isn’t really an Indie Game HORROR collection… its a more *Horror themed Cute games. But I don’t think this collection is bad. In fact, seeing as the Not-Horror collection, it’s quite charming. There are some pretty good games here... So, just like the others, let’s give a score to each one of them, so they all can be reviewed (in the order I played): >Disparity of the Dead< 10/10 - I’m amazed. This is the best game so far, and in my opinion in all the 5 Dread Xs. This game has amazing writing, strong enough to be its own thing. No, really, I wished this one was put on steam alone and faced great success. This feels like a complete game. It has a great art style, charming graphics with good art direction. The gameplay is very simple platformer, but you have to read the dialogues to solve clues while you gather soul energy. The slow burn is great, despite not really being a horror game (for most of the time) it had amazing drama writing. The ending is peak and so so well made. I’m speechless. My first pick was the best the entire series had to offer. Disparity of the Dead is a must play, it’s incredible. >Bubbo: Adventure on Geralds Island< 8/10 - I really liked this one. It feels like a Mario Sunshine creepy pasta. The game is a cute platformer collectathon about a cute guy that was stranded on an island after his boat crashed. As you do the platforming challenges and talk to the npcs, you start to feel the weirdness in their dialogue. They are hiding something and they are most likely a cult. This is such a good idea for a game, and I really liked the overall feel of playing a cursed version of a kids game. >EDEN: Garden of the Faultless< 4/10 - This feels like a Dread X 1 title. The graphics are cool but they weren’t really put to good use, as this game lacks art design and a distinct art style. It just feels like an old game jumble for the sake of "aesthetic". The gameplay is boring, despite the cute elements of raising your angel. There isn’t much here, It isn’t horror, it isn’t interesting, it isn’t very good. >Bete Grise< 7/10 - Incredibly charming 2D adventure game about a hotel keeper. The art style is amazing and so well made. I like the retro vibe and really digest the simple but effective gameplay. This is a very short one, 20 minutes at best, but it’s worth it and I wasn’t expecting the “horror” of it coming from where it came. >SATO WONDERLAND< 8/10 - This game feels very unique, it has a great story line that you must discover using its investigation mechanics. The visual identity is very strong and the writing is very good as well. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. The only issue is that you must be willing to invest a lot by reading and knowing how to choose the right combination of words. It isn’t that hard tho, so I think it isn't too niched to be part of a collection. Banger ending. >Chip's Tips< 6/10 - I think this is the joke game. All the games have very light horror elements and more cutesy art styles. But this one stands out among the others as the traditional joke game that comes with the collections. The gameplay is simple, but it shines at being super charming. The literal pictures taken from the dog and the owner used for the graphics make it pretty funny. It’s a very charming experience, despite having light horror elements, it can’t be taken seriously and I don’t think it should. HOWEVER, the texture of the assets moves as you do, and this is very trippy and sickening. I didn’t like that, it hurt my eyes and head. >Matter OVER Mind< 6/10 - A cute little stealth game about an alien hijacking human bodies. It’s very short, it doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it isn’t very memorable either. I think it just lacks a truly engaging gameplay, as the visual identity is pretty neat. It’s worth a shot. >SPOOKWARE @ The Video Store< 8/10 - Incredibly charming Warioware like game. I really liked the art styles used and it had engaging elements. It’s halloween themed, but not really any horror… but it doesn’t feel like a joke entry, just a cute one. My main issue is that it isn’t very clear what you must do after a game shift and some are a little annoying. That being said, it is still a cute worthwhile experience. >Soul Waste< 6/10 - This is a combat platformer focused on speed (It feels like a combat focused sonic game). The vibes are all there, the graphics and art style match perfectly. I had a good time playing it, despite some segments being a little annoying to deal with. The “horror” comes from the setting, the desolate abandoned world you are playing in. The gameplay may annoy some, but I vibed with it, I liked it a lot in fact. >REACTOR< 7/10 - Reactor has a very distinct art style, it stands among the other games in this collection and I think it nails it pretty well. The gameplay it’s a little bland, but is short enough to be okay. The selling point is the writing, the atmosphere built leading to the horror. Yes, I feel like this may be one of the only real horror games here alongside Sato, Bete and the ending sequence of Disparity. It’s a very short experience, but it’s enjoyable and worth your time. >Submission< 8/10 - The idea behind this one is the best one for me, it’s so creative. It’s short and very much leaned to the fun side… enough to argue it may also be the “joke game”, but I don’t think so because it has enough horror elements to not be… even if it’s a little goofy. I really liked it, kinda a cool meta entry in the franchise. >Nice Screams at Funfair< 2/10 - This is an annoying , unnecessary entry. Starting with the best and ending with the worst left me with a distorted and warped vision of this collection, and it’s this game's fault. Annoying, surrealism done for shock value, unfun, bad. Don’t play this one. >Dread X 3 Hub World (Graveyard Castle)< 1/10 - After the bagging hub world from 2, I had high hopes for this one. The puzzles are all bad, the castle isn’t as cool as the house. The art style is… cute, I liked it. But the hub world has this long and boring dialogues between the mc and the virus Prometheus. This part sucked, I really disliked it. At least you can just play all the games first right? Well… this time you can’t solve all the puzzles first, you have to do them after FINISHING one of the games, so if you disliked one and didn’t want to finish… Well now you are stuck with it. Despite this (or because of it) the game added a Freeplay mode where you go straight to the games. But too little too late, I would rather have a better hub world or none at all instead of this mess. >>>Final review<<< This is a strange entry in the collection’s franchise. I had to judge this in a different way, not like spooky horror games… but as cute fun experiences designed around a halloweeny horror theme. That being said, some of the scores I gave may make this feels like the best entry for the consistency in the high scores, but if you play this wanting horror games, you're going to feel like you drove hours and hours and the destination was either never reached or closed by the time you arrived. The games in this collection are indeed very good, they felt very polished and with a clear purpose in mind. I guess it is just easier to not make horror games. I definitely recommend this one for Disparity of the Dead alone. But if you are interested, there are a couple of other good titles in this one. I wouldn’t say that it’s better than 2, just different. ALSO, JUST PLAY IN FREEPLAY, THE HUB WORLD SUCKS.
A different direction from the previous Dread X titles, DX3 mainly revolves around horror with "cute & cozy" vibes rather than traditional fearfulness. This sort of style will not cater to everyone, but I personally enjoyed it a lot and thought the games in this collection were overall pretty great. What I will knock it down for though however, is the meta/hub storyline. The puzzle-solving aspects were fun, it was the interactions between the protag and his "ghost" that just... didn't stick with me (they were cringey, I'm sorry LOL). * My ratings below are based within the context of Dread X & purposely short dev times * Spookware @ The Video Store - Horror-themed Warioware? Hell yeah. A few frustrating minigames but mostly fun. 8.5/10 EDEN: Garden of the Faultless - OG FF7 chocobo racing + sonic chao garden + creepy cute monsters = this game. I loved it but I did wish there was little bit clearer explanations of what to do/how mechs work. 9/10 Bubbo: Adventure on Geralds Island - Simple cute fun platformer but rather predictable "twist" 8.5/10 Chip’s Tips - I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY CHIP'S TIPS SLANDER, THIS WAS PEAK 10/10 Submission - Loved the meta aspect and actually kinda creepy in some parts 9/10 Matter OVER Mind - For sure my least fav game in the bunch, but definitely not bad either. Just personally found it a bit meh. 7/10 Reactor - A great walking sim experience, cute but terrifying by the end 9/10 Disparity of the Dead - Honestly just found this one beautiful 10/10 Bete Grise - LOVED the isometric style and gameplay, it was very unique! 10/10 Soul Waste - PS1 vibes were so strong in this one, and great artstyle, though the 1 song on repeat got a bit old 8/10 Nice Screams at Funfair - A bit underwhelming gameplay-wise, but i liked the goth music and artstyle 7.5/10 SATO WONDERLAND - Hot take, this was better than FNAF 9/10
Another fun Dread X collection, though this one tended much more toward the silly and whimsical than previous entries. Not a bad thing, just a different direction with its own good/bad to it. Going game by game, favorite to least favorite, starting with the hub you wander around in to get candles to play games. Hub Castle - Very different vibe to this one, feels like a less scary Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion. Maybe because it was popular when this was made? Anyway, the puzzles are a bit less intuitive this time around, but nothing terribly complex. The only annoyance was figuring out where to get the vacuum that literally 50% of the candles need for you to obtain. Otherwise it was a lot of wandering. I found it pretty easy to get lost, since it's substantially larger than the Dread X 2 house hub. Special mention favorably about the interactions between the protagonist and his erstwhile companion. I found their dialogue to be a good mix of funny, reassuring, and friendly. Submission - This one requires some trial and error, but I found it to be a great mix of scary and funny. Had moments where I was genuinely creeped out/startled, and also laughed out loud. The programming gimmick is a bit hard to figure out right at first, kind of wish it had had more direction on keywords you should use or a shortcut once you unlock a keyword. Otherwise, fun and freaky, which most of the other games weren't able to capture in such good balance. Reactor - Sort of a walking simulator, but I enjoyed the scenery and the odd story. It was barely creepy, but it did have some creep factor to it all the same. I don't usually like the space/sci-fi games, but this one is a notable exception. Bete Grise - This one is very... cutesy, I guess? But I also found that I was nervous while doing the somewhat repetitive minigames, especially the vending machine QTEs. By the way, if you find you're failing those consistently, try to hit the buttons the second they touch the left side of the entry circle; don't wait until they're right in the middle or you'll likely miss. Sato Wonderland - Unlocking the full story on this one was a challenge, but worth it. I enjoyed the unfolding story, but found it overall more tedious in execution than the other ones I liked more. Bubbo: Adventure on Geralds Island - One of many of the "Cutesy PSX/N64" entries of this collection, this one being more of the latter. Not bad controls, really, and straightforward enough. I don't feel strongly about this game one way or the other. Disparity of the Dead - Leaning more toward the PSX era of graphics and platforming, this one had a cool start and I liked the appearance more than Bubbo. However, the perhaps intentionally floaty controls and obtuse puzzle solutions were frustrating, especially figuring out the teleportation machine since the game doesn't do a good job of telling you to link clues together on the detective's storyboard. Once you do get into the machine the game has about two minutes left, and it felt like a quick write-up with surreal solutions to a story that should have gotten more attention start to finish. Eden: Garden of the Faultless - FF7 Chocobo racing with angels. Neat presentation and music, that's about it. Chip's Tips - Some cool creepy moments, but I didn't like the minimalist approach it took overall. More odd than scary. Soul Waste - N64 homage again, but with horrible controls. It constantly felt like I was on ice. I got the "good" ending, but it was a tedious process. Matter Over Mind - Terrrrrrrrrrrrible controls. Otherwise kind of cutesy and meh. Spookware at the Video Store - If you like WarioWare you'll probably enjoy this. I found it kind of funny, but also frustrating and annoying. Nice Screams at Funfair - Worst one by far. Horrible controls, ugly graphics and sound, unappealing from start to finish. I had about a 50% chance of picking a scoop of ice cream and placing it in a cone, or not scooping/dropping the whole scoop on the table.
You'd think in their third collection, Dread X would start to lose steam and weirdness, but no such luck. Sato Wonderland and Chip's Tips were my standout experiences for vastly different reasons.
I left a very angry review originally because a couple of games in the collection are frustrating, but overall I still found it worth the cost of admission. Personally I hated everything about Soul Waste and it's one of the most frustrating games I've ever played, and I'll just leave it at that. Some of them, like Nice Screams at Funfair are a buggy, nearly unplayable mess that you'll want to rush through as quickly as possible. I did have high hopes for that one because it had some neat visuals in the beginning. Some people evidently like self-referential inside-jokey meta-humor a lot. Those people may love the third weakest, most lazily written entry, Submission. Chip's Tips, Bubbo, and to some degree Submission are takes on the haunted children's game genre or whatever. Meh, some people like that I guess. My personal standouts are Sato Wonderland, Bete Grise, EDEN, and Spookware. They had really interesting concepts or were just fun to play. The ones I didn't mention were enjoyable but not particularly memorable to me. I do feel the overall horror was light in the hub and the games. It wasn't as spooky. Overall, I got a good 6 or 7 hours out of Dread X 3! And 2-3 frustrating hours out of Soul Waste... I hate myself for wanting the achievements that badly.
i really really really really love disparity of the dead best collection, id say
sympa mais celui que j'ai le moins aimé, cool qd meme pour le prix
