Puzzle. Addictive. Played it 8 times in a row my first sitting. Designed as a solo experience. The board game is $50+ on eBay. If you figure out how the tank is not just a suicide mission, I really want to know. True historical WWII battle. Real people. Their actual names and photos. A strange battle indeed. War is crazy as hell.
Great Game! It plays just like the Board game. Includes the Rules AND the "Companion" book as well, which was an additional add-on to the regular game. There is a Tutorial "as you play" type thing. You can later turn it off. Set ups are done for you here, which is very convenient and time saving! Think of it as a Tower Defense while only having so many actions to handle the oncoming attack. You really need to manage your actions well. This digital version has an added "Novice" mode - an easier game mode to get the hang of the game. Don't underestimate the use of Suppression in this game. Game is very challenging, but winnable. This is a David Thompson Design. The app is very well made. More variety of music would be a welcomed addition.
This is a fun game that can be played rather quickly. I like it a lot.
Enjoying playing the game. The companion book that comes with the game provides a fascinating story of the event.
What I like: – gameplay modes: we are getting all the boardgame set-ups: Beginner, Veteran, Elite – the latter two with increased difficulty due to Tactics Cards and initial counter mix (more Scouts and Strum). But we also have a Novice set-up, which will be a good entry point for people new to the series. – precise rules implementation – there are no errors I am aware of which is great; so many digital versions were a mere resemblance of great boardgames by erroneous conversion. – this is definitely light and fast game – what I noticed, is that application is not using too much resources, especially on PC; seems well optimized but still looks good. – quite intuitive interface plus great music. It is definitely not too crowded, has all details at hand and pretty good visibility of details. – last but not least, this is fantastic boardgame after all, pretty challenging with possibility to increase the difficulty level with tactics cards; great if you cannot bring the boxed version to the table. What I do not like: – There is no version for iPhone/iPad (not that I am aware of at least). Probably it might be only temporary, but still this is a pity. – It steals time which I would normally devote to my boxed version of the game 🙂 I am very happy that another great solo game in Valiant Defense series by David Thompson received such a great digital implementation. After Pavlov’s House Application we are now getting another great port, which works flawlessly, looks nice and meticulously implements the rules. When I am approaching the digital versions of the boardgames I am pretty cautious. I have seen so many poorly developed apps that before I am convinced the product is good I have to extensively play it. In this case I have no doubts – this is great piece of work. Highly recommended! Full review on my blog: FULL REVIEW
This is AGAIN a great interpretation of a well loved board game. Developers can ruin the simplest concepts these days, but this isn't one. I get more enjoyment out of board game adaptations than any other genre these days. For whatever reason developers don't bother to infect them with DEI, race swap everything or add some sort of progressive message into them. I digress, this is an accurate 1/1 exchange of a board game. Nothing except the physical copy and time spent in set up was lost.
Great implementation of a great board game!
Very fun solitaire game, and one of the most interesting historical battles of WWII. Took a long time to figure out how to just even get a draw game.
A neat, quick game about one of the most interesting historical battles of WW2. The UI is very clean and makes it easy to understand what's happening in the game at any time. Very good implementation of the boardgame.
Awesome game! :D
