About
Carry Onward is a short emotional narrative-driven game that follows Thomas, a grieving man, as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery while packing up his home. Experience his quest to find healing and hope as he prepares to leave behind the house he once shared with his beloved wife.
Engage with seemingly ordinary objects, each holding special significance to Thomas and his past, and explore the inner thoughts and emotions of a man seeking solace and purpose. Witness how even the smallest moments can have a profound impact on our lives and shape who we are.
Embark on a short journey: a game designed to be completed in an evening made by solo developer.
Shape the ending: your choices will shape Thomas' emotional journey, leading to one of five possible outcomes.
Explore man's inner world: uncover the depths of Thomas' thoughts and emotions as you accompany him on his journey of self-discovery.
The game drew inspiration from The First Tree, Twelve Minutes and Adios, as well as the creative minds behind them.

very thoughtful game, tries to convey a message and easily accomplishes this
I feel like I need to make a game to express my guilt in giving this a Do Not Recommend. But jokes aside...this isn't a terrible experience. It isn't really a game, per say. The game opens with the background of the character, with you choosing one of two options in various scenes (I think identical to Firewatch). Unlike Firewatch, I didn't really feel connected to either the main character or the character in his past when it was over. Once the game begins, you explore the four room house (five, at the end). You click on items around the rooms, and then pick a one-word summary of the item with very little context. I clicked on a cutting board on a kitchen counter, and got options like "Memories" and "Nourishment", and then the character pontificates about the option selected. I think it turns out the cutting board represented recipes? There wasn't a ton of context as to what I was reacting to, and hence with it being sort of "random" what my reaction meant that I was choosing, I was a bit detached from the results. Apparently, there are multiple endings. I didn't replay it...the ending I got seemed good enough. The music seemed nice, but without an emotional connection to the characters, I just never really got that emotional kick. I know this all sounds harsh...and I don't want it to be. I fully support this dev (absolutely not refunding) and I hope that this feedback is helpful in some way. If I could wave a magic want and change things, I would've suggested this game spend "more time in the oven" so it could've developed more of a backstory and the character more of a personality. But I wouldn't ignore any future works by this dev!

Short but sweet, it's really touching
The game while short has a very real emotional resonance for someone going through grief. I found myself crying through most of it while playing. The narrator does a great job of really bringing across the duality of feelings and reflections of going through such a drastic unexpected change.
We have all lost someone in our lives, whether it was a friend, relative or partner. We all handle loss differently and some of us need help more then others, some sadly struggle so much with this loss, even with or without support they still find it hard to cope or move on, and that's OK, there are no rules to dealing with or handling loss. Carry Onward is a beautifully written story about one person`s loss and their struggle to "carry onward" and eventually move forward with their life. After a brief introduction with some choices, you are presented with the start of the game with Thomas, the main character`s struggle and fight to carry on with his life, with help from a friend, Thomas is offered the chance to start a new beginning. Control Thomas as he moves around his house, interacting with everyday objects, remembering the past, remembering the love of his life, Carry onward offers choices which can shape and affect the final ending to the game, to which there are several. The visuals have a simple, cell shaded charm to them with stunning lighting, simply turning on or off the light switch, gives each room its own unique light or dark look. Beautiful music plays in the background and I highly recommend you play this with headphones. The story you are part of, felt like a very personal one and was very moving and well written. Yes the game is very "short & sweet" or maybe "short & bitter" would be more appropriate, and some may feel the small asking price of £3.99 is still too much for a game that lasts approx. 20-30 minutes, for me personally it was a beautiful experience, and I highly recommend it, I will always support smaller game developers, especially solo devs. To sum up Carry onward, a charming, extremely moving, short tale of love, loss and finally moving on with your life, which we can all relate to, in some way. It helped me through my loss. thank you
This game is about 15 minutes gameplay time. I expect for 35 mins til 1 hour gameplay for a short game. So, its little bit overprice for me. For all who want buy this game, i want you to know about this game is focusing on the story rather than the gameplay. The story is just good. BUT, I like this game, even i'm not much happy with the story. Im so appreciate the effort, not easy to make a game. I hope this game can be count on my profile steam and there is a next story with longer playtime to make the player more emotional feeling playing the game.
Lovely little 20 min title about nostalgia and letting go, starting anew and dealing with the hardships of life to move on. Nothing spectacular, but the lighting is great, the style accomplished and the runtime wisely chosen. 6.5/10
