It feels almost exactly like a high concept, "adult" cartoon from the USSR. For a game with no dialogue, it is also very funny, and has lovely music besides. In other words, if you thought to dismiss this as crappy and/or ~ironic~ based on the graphics, it's not. The dev's been around the block for a looong time.
Great game. Lovely music plus wonderful animation. it immersed me into a cool pirate world that i want to learn more about. i am glad my money went to this creator so that they can make more things.
Disclaimer: Bought in a Fanatical bundle This title reminds me of quite a few things. Adventure games like Another World, albeit with less interactivity. A flash game is another but not meant in a negative way. It conveys a lot with an art style that some might view as low effort. But the more you play the more you accept it. The perspective changes and animations of the background characters give a lot of personality and depth. Before the game was over I even though "what if I got the protag tattooed on me". I found it endearing and it really won me over. Very cool experience. This isn't some kind of sleeper hit. But definitely an art piece more than anything. You could get more playtime out of Vamp survivors or any of the other clones for a similar price. But if your willing to spend half an hour checking out some cool art this gets my endorsement.
I visited Cape Hideous and it was beautiful.
Short, but immensely charming experience. Evidently made with love.
it’s rare to find games that truly understand the poetic potential of the videogame medium and don’t just rely on words in order to try and achieve an artistic sensibility. but cape hideous explores this poetic language in a beautiful, natural way, without text ever appearing on screen again aer the starting menu. ft in cape hideous you play as a woman who smokes three pipes simultaneously and lives on a ship with a mysterious community of pirates (honestly, some of the coolest fictional pirates ever). the world portrayed here feels like it continues existing even outside of the physical confines of the videogame, largely due to the presence of many coherently curated details that the player will inevitably fantasize about. jake clover keeps the game mechanics to the minimum essential - movement with the arrow keys - so that all the beautiful animations and interactions are put in the foreground. the poetry of cape hideous lives in its many sweet small moments, in the animations that appear only once and then never again, in the sudden close-ups, in the changes in music, in the mystique; it’s the heart-warming feeling of witnessing something truly special, a mature and promising ray of light in the world of experimental videogames.
was really fanatstic. caught me off guard a bit, its very nice. looks great. basically I would call this ghibli meets MSPaint
cape beautiful
Some weird stuff is happening on this ship, I'll tell you what... Really short, quick, and fun game!
An achievement in story telling and atmosphere. One that doesn't waste a moment of your time. Wholly formed and gorgeous on every level. Short, filling, and incredibly sweet.
