Calling this a "return to form" for the Call of Duty campaign is honestly laughable. Every time I see someone say that, I have to wonder: have standards really fallen this low? The action is decent enough when the game isn't bugging out, but the story and characters are painfully weak. None of them are memorable, the dialogue is bland and the supposed "big moments" never come close to hitting as hard as they did in the original Modern Warfare trilogy. The game is also painfully obsessed with appealing to the "modern audience." Every major authority figure just happens to be a woman. Highest-ranking CIA official? Woman. Army general? Debra Wilson girlbossing the old white male colonel. Leader of the resistance? You guessed it... another woman. Curiously, the only factions where you never seem to find women are the terrorists and the evil Russians. Then there's Alex, whose entire character arc made me roll my eyes. "I'm a CIA operative with no ties whatsoever to this country, but let me immediately defect to these Uzbek resistance fighters. Please, fearless girlboss leader, order me to sacrifice myself for your cause because I'm such a good little soldier." It felt completely unearned. Now for the real disaster: everything surrounding the game itself. I bought this to play the single-player campaign, yet Activision insists I jump through every hoop imaginable: - Download well over 100 GB. - Install Warzone content I have zero interest in. - Stay connected to the internet because the campaign is always online. - Install anti-cheat software (which probably operates at the kernel level). - Create an Activision account despite already having a Battle.net account. And after all of that, the game still had technical issues. I experienced checkpoint stutters, distant textures refusing to load properly and other annoying bugs that shouldn't be present in a premium AAA title. TL;DR: Modern Call of Duty has completely lost the plot. The campaign is mediocre, the characters are forgettable, the technical requirements are absurd and the always-online ecosystem surrounding a single-player campaign is inexcusable. Save your time and money.
A Fantastic Reboot
As someone who grew up playing Call of Duty, finally completing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) on my Steam account felt genuinely special. I was only missing the last Spec Ops achievement, and after wrapping that up, I can confidently say this was an experience worth revisiting from start to finish. The campaign is excellent. It's cinematic, intense, and grounded, with several memorable missions that reminded me a lot of Battlefield 3's campaign—in the best way possible. The pacing rarely slows down, the gunplay feels incredibly satisfying, and the visuals and sound design still hold up remarkably well years later. And of course, having Captain John Price back was a huge highlight. This character holds so many memories for me from my childhood playing Call of Duty. Hearing his voice, seeing his leadership, and following him through another intense mission brought back that feeling of playing the older Modern Warfare games all those years ago. He is one of those characters that helped define the series, and seeing him return in this reboot was truly special. Spec Ops was so damn intense. Some operations took multiple attempts, and teamwork was absolutely essential. Every successful completion felt incredibly rewarding, and finally clearing every single operation to earn that last achievement was one of the most satisfying moments in the game.

Another thing I really appreciated about Modern Warfare (2019) is that it was one of the first Call of Duty games I could jump into on PC without the usual concerns surrounding serious security issues like RCE exploits. Being able to enjoy the multiplayer experience safely made a huge difference, and the multiplayer was genuinely a lot of fun. Call of Duty was a huge part of my childhood, so seeing this game completed on my Steam account means more than just another perfect game. Hopefully, this is only the beginning, and I'll be making my way through many more Call of Duty titles on Steam in the future. If you're looking for a modern military shooter with a gripping campaign, satisfying gunplay, and enjoyable multiplayer and co-op content, this one is absolutely worth playing.
