Cakey's Twisted Bakery
The tags for this game are deceiving, the trailer very clearly shows this is a horror game but the top tags are "Action", "Adventure", "Puzzle", it's simply your average Mascot horror game despite not being very scary. They gave this game out for free upon release and I didn't touch it for years, given it's so cheap I think it's fairly priced, but it's not handholdy at all so you're kinda left to figure everything out yourself.
Gameplay
Going in blind is not a great experience, I walked around for a while not really knowing what to do at all, hiding in corners and collecting random ingredients, it was probably a good 10 minutes before I released I could even walk through the closed doors. All of this is to say that the game does not do a good job at explaining the mechanics to the player, as on the nose as it would be, a phone call or narrator explaining what to do wouldn't have been such a bad addition, it took me reading a guide to understand the core mechanics and it became obvious from there. You collect ingredients from around the map which have random spawn locations, using them to bake different cakes which can damage the bosses. The recipes are high on the walls likely to be missed and the health bar of the boss indicates what cake is needed to damage them at that given time, but given you are avoiding them, you are not seeing the HP bar most of the time so this is just as likely to be missed. The first boss is a slog, you can only pick up 1 ingredient at a time with some being very far away, you get items to increases carrying capacity afterwards but by then you're already gonna be pretty bored. The bosses are pretty easy to pick up on how they work which makes endless and hardcore much more forgiving. Regardless of the lacking gameplay I was surprised at how polished this is for a mascot horror game that was free at launch, everything worked as intended and I barely ran into any bugs.
Achievements (21/21)
The achievements aren't as bad as they look, the grindy ones for collecting and baking come pretty naturally while going for the endless achievement, by the time you go for 10,000 score in endless you should have a pretty good grasp on how the enemies work that it's not really that bad of a challenge.
Music/sound
The game uses a variety of sound effects to assist the player, it lets you know when a boss in entering or exiting the map, and each has their own music that plays when nearby them, giving you good info on where to avoid, this music does take away from the horror though.
Settings/Accessibility/Misc
Performance option available. Only English language supported. Keyboard and mouse support.
TL;DR
Mediocre Mascot horror game with little direction given. No tutorial, every mechanic is visual and easily missed. Bosses are easy to learn. Pretty polished regardless. Easy achievements.
Check out my Curator page
If you fancy running around in a dimly lit cartoonish restaurant, partially blind because of super dark environments, looking for ingredients for things while being hunted by a monster that has a compelling Acid 303 bassline as it's indicator, then you're going to love this game! Me however? I didn't like this at all. Not my jam. Sorry.
Its fine, for free ofc
i dont wanna pie! get it? die, pie. also i left george
Its not bad for what it is but you will be getting a lot of ingredients if you miss. If you hit your shots the game ends faster as the monster gets stunned and if you have enough cakes lined up you can lock them in place. Then exploit each key round to farm resources till you unlock all the achievements.
