It's actually very fun, i love balls

This game may not look like much, and the runs have a tencendy to either be very fun or very frustrating, but for 5 bucks, I already got my moneys worth out of this and I am 100% sure I will get atleast another 20 hours before I am done with it.

A pretty fun take on a breakout-style game. Clearing a floor injects dopamine into my veins.

Fun game. Wish it had upgrades of some kind

Buster Breaks Out is a roguelite spin on the classic Breakout arcade game with unfortunately flawed core mechanics. Rather than losing your ball if it goes through the bottom as in most Breakout-style games, your ball has a 10 health that decreases any time it hits any edge of the screen. This means that comboing off the top or sides is actually the worst thing that could happen, rather than the goal. Thus, the game becomes more about trying to keep the ball bouncing mostly straight up and down until you can get a shot that can ricochet around between bricks. However, the base speed is quite high, so accuracy is difficult, and being a little bit off can mean you lose the entire life in one bad bounce. This is made worse by the fact that you can easily get trapped in a corner -- you can't move any of your paddle out of the play area, so if the ball is moving vertically by an edge, you can't angle to get out and will frequently send yourself into a death combo with the ceiling. The net effect is that you spend your time trying to avoid frustration, rather shooting for an exciting combo. It’s simply less fun than the normal Breakout mechanics. Once you get some powerups, the story does change. There are various options that can you help you not combo yourself to death, and the game is actually quite fun once you get those running. You can get paddles on the top, chances for a side-hit to not count against you, and the ability for your ball to pass through the wall and come out on the opposite side of the screen without taking damage among other possibilities. That's not to mention a plethora of other enjoyable mechanics that can combine multiplicatively to give you that big number dopamine hit. I did genuinely enjoy my mutliball run that maxed out survival mode and had some goofy-big numbers. I also had a few runs that struggled, but I was able to eek out a win, which were also eventually enjoyable -- just not from the start. That's the thing, though. With a run based game, you really need to be fun from the start and Buster simply isn't due to its core mechanics.
