Best brick breaker I ever played. If there's a slight chance you're interested - buy it. Don't let this gem die in obscurity. The core gameplay is solid; the updates are frequent; the builds are fun and numerous; music absolutely slaps; amiga-inspired art and cheeky humor tied the experience together for me. As of wrighting this review, in early access, it will take you 50-ish hours of gameplay just to complete every challenge and difficulty which is a STEAL for the price and also fun. Did I mention this game is really fun?
Roguelike Breakout is pretty cool. You've got 10 bounces by default, hitting the walls loses a bounce. The different balls change your approach to firing, but you generally want to avoid getting stuck on the ceiling or you're likely to lose all your 'health' quickly. That was probably my biggest pain point with the game. It was satisfying to find a combo of balls that changed how I approached the game pretty dramatically, angling off a wall to lose one bounce on purpose before hitting a big concentration of blocks to black hole them for oodles of points. The early game is probably the hardest part, but if you break through, you get rewarded with some interesting synergies and more good music. Edit: Difficulty curve has already been changed, early game is easier, late game is harder. Dev seems to be updating regularly, nice work!
buster broke out of jail, then out of the game 10/10 would bust again For real its a great mix of challenging and rewarding, would love to see more game mechanics and features as it develops :D
this game makes me feel funny :)
Baller Now with Fren Update
This game was great! I beat it on my first run! was a little buggy when too many balls appeared on screen but other than that I had a great time! Does a good mix of Balatro-type rougelike mechanics with the tried and true gameplay of Breakout. Side note: ball should oink when you have piggy ball :3
I saw Joel stream this and jumped on this . for 5 bucks im not gonna lie i have kept coming back and coming back. This is easily a recommend
Quite fun. There's some flaws here and there, such as early difficulty and scaling. The main one to me is that it feels like I can't go very far without upgrades. I'm used to roguelites letting me use skill to get through part of the early game without upgrades, but in this one you NEED upgrades to progress, imo. Still very fun, and I suggest anyone interested to purchase it. It's $5. That's less than the price of a cup of coffee at starbucks.
This game is fun and addicting. Really cool twist on the roguelite genre. Only thing - the learning curve is pretty steep. it's harder than i expected for sure. I think that a tutorial is needed to onboard someone like me onto all the new mechanics (the life system, wall hits, how to clear a level, how to use your paddle), on my first run i wasn't sure what the count down was, i thought it was a countdown timer, and i only had 10 seconds per ball. That said, i really enjoyed the feeling of quickly getting better and getting to higher levels and scoring sick combos
One of the better Breakout clones with some neat twists
