About
Hello everyone! We're a small indie team of three from China, and we're obsessed with bugs. But as digital nomads, we can't keep real insects long-term—so we turned our screens into virtual terrariums!
That's how Bugtopia was born: a cozy idler where you can raise, breed, and collect bugs without any real-life limits.
We hope it brings you the same joy we felt from petting bugs!

Bugtopia is a unique idler featuring not just one, but over 300 lovingly crafted bug species - all based on real-life counterparts! From bioluminescent wonders to chirpy little critters, we've given each insect an adorable artistic makeover while preserving their real-world charm.
The game introduces a special breeding/mating system - simply place two bugs in the breeding box and wait patiently for exciting new (and sometimes rare!) species to emerge.
With deep respect for nature, we've included some endangered and even extinct insects, built encyclopedia entries for every species. We hope players will grow to appreciate these tiny lives through our game.

To let your bugs live in a cozy, comfortable and personalized terrarium environment, we've created a highly free DIY landscaping system.
20+ Terrarium types, 70+ water & soil and wallpaper options, 300+ landscaping items, 700+ evolving states that gradually unlock through idle gameplay. With countless combination possibilities, you can create ever-changing terrarium landscapes tailored to your preferences!
The terrarium features 5 time periods and 4 weather conditions. From dawn to night, from sunny days to drizzles and misty weather, your terrarium is full of vitality and changes. Additional features include desktop wallpaper mode and pomodoro timer. Other little functions and easter eggs are coming up for perfect companions, for both work and leisure time.
Place a little piece of nature on your desktop - watch foxtails grow lush, moss cover stones, dotted with cute bugs and their soothing chirps. We hope Bugtopia can bring a moment of relaxation to your busy days, letting you enjoy some peaceful and beautiful moments.
The three founders, having developed strong teamwork through multiple GameJams and commercial projects, officially established the indie game studio "Nocturnal Games" in 2024. They firmly believe that gentle and cozy games can also leave a lasting impression.

As with all the idle games I've played recently, the soundtrack never misses. Gameplay-wise, this one has a grind reminiscent of Tiny Pasture where you have to raise animals/bugs and sell them to make more money to get more bugs, and so on. So the progression in the beginning is pretty slow and if you get frustrated by sub-dollar amounts you'll be a little disappointed by that lol. Don't even think about cute decorations until you've got a decent collection of bugs either. I just found it peaceful to work along to the music while the bugs were off doing whatever bugs do. On another note, I'm a little curious what led to the addition of "entomophobia protection" mode in the settings. The list of possible fears is longer than I thought: spiders, roaches, moths, millipedes, grasshoppers, beetles, even snails... I would like to think that anyone with such a fear of bugs that it extends to cartoon versions, would probably know to avoid a game like this. Hopefully those settings never have to be used in practice...

Bugtopia is a super cute idle game where you buy, raise, breed, and sell bugs to earn money to unlock the next breed of bug (or fish) to place in your tank and/or buy decorations. This game took me about a week to play and achievement hunt, only "technically" stretching my playtime to two weeks since there's an achievement for not logging in for seven days. I enjoyed my time with the game, but I have a few minor complaints. I think breeding needs to be tweaked a bit because currently the cocoon phase is the most boring part of waiting in this game. The increase in income you get from them in exchange for not being able to speed them up is abysmal. I understand that, realistically, you wouldn't be able to feed a cocoon, but I think the timer should be cut to half of what it currently is. I also think the option to delete eggs should be added because, when breeding several of the same bug, I might get my next upgrade out of all eight tanks, but now I have to wait for the eggs to hatch just so I can yeet them and move my next breeding pair in. My second complaint is about tank decor. I think you should be able to layer items in the tanks. I understand this might cause some issues with bugs climbing behind multiple items, but it sucks that I put a large piece of driftwood in my tank and now I can barely put anything else in there because the items would overlap. I also believe you should be able to move the rock that comes in the tanks. It's usually placed in a spot where I want to put other things. I'm also not the biggest fan of having to reroll the store for decorations, but that's probably more of a me problem than anything. Other than that, I can't find much fault with the game. I'm not a huge fan of bugs in real life, but they were super cute here, and I enjoyed taking care of them. I recommend it to any fellow cozy idler fans out there.
perfection.
There are many games that are released full of bugs. Some require the community to step in to manage the bugs left in by developers. Some bugs are never taken care of all. Well, let me tell you, this game has lots of bugs for you to take care of - in the best way. The game runs just fine, but it is crawling with tiny insects and crustaceans of all kinds. And a few of the other kinds of bugs - but those are intentional and part of the game. The premise is that you are building terrariums, and filling them with a variety of insects. However, don't expect a deep simulation here - you periodically clean the terrarium but there isn't much to manage. Instead you are focused on building the insect population. The basic gameplay is that you buy young insect larva and nymphs, and they produce money per second, and as you get more money, you can buy more insects. Soon, those insects will grow into pupa and/or adults, with an increased value and more income. You see the adults to buy more young insects, and keep the process up while you gather money. This does mean that early on, rather than choosing insects you want, you will be mass buying the most expensive insects you can afford, raising them, and immediately selling them to buy more. As you get more money and more income, you can pay for upgrades and additional terrariums. Eventually you unlock breeding boxes, where you can take two insects of the same species and produce eggs. Of course, this is where biological accuracy is not present - eggs hatch a single insect, and any two insects of the species can mate regardless. Makes sense for gameplay, I suppose.
The single most fun idle-ish game I've ever played, as well as the best bug game in general! I love how diverse the species on display are. Every time I unlock something new I'm absolutely delighted. In addition to the bugs themselves, it's so easy and fun to put together whatever kind of paludarium you can think of. This isn't a complaint, just a statement to my own greed, but I wish there were more paludarium slots so I could make more, more, more ecosystems! I'm an adult now, but if this was around when I was a kid I would have been OBSESSED with it. DLC when? I'd pay for another whole game just like this, it's just the best!
开局等攒钱略枯燥煎熬,但中后期的繁殖和建造生态缸超乎意料的好玩
