Brath: Brain and Math

[b]brath[/b] is basically the classic game, [b]concentration[/b], where you flip tiles in pairs and try to clear the board by finding matches, except this has a lot of variations and there's some math involved. I won't list and describe the [b]7 game modes[/b] here, as the store page does a good job of it. some will test your addition or multiplication skills (or both in [i]3solitaire[/i]), some are simpler matching or memory games with several tilesets, and even simpler in their kids versions, but [b]the amount of customizability is praise-worthy[/b]. every game mode except [i]3solitaire[/i] can be played with a normal layout (square) or spaghetti (circular arrangement), you can also set the number of tiles (between 8 and 42), enable a move and/or time limit, or just a timer showing how long you've been playing. it's also possible to set how long you'd like to see flipped cards, and by turning on hints, the entire board will be revealed for a short while at the start. speaking of [i]3solitaire[/i], it's probably the best one in the bunch, but it's also the least customizable, you can play it timed or untimed and that's it. would be nice to be able to set the number of matches required to win, as 45 can take some time, and while I'm not one for punishing or frustrating game mechanics, a more challenging alternative could be a game over after a few mistakes, as currently you can match anything to get a new target. when the game is over, you get some statistics, and a star rating if you win. 3 for no unnecessary cliks [i](sic!)[/i], 1 or 2 for a few or more, but it doesn't mean anything, doesn't matter for achievements either. they shouldn't be too difficult to get, since you can make the game as easy or difficult as you want. [b]the presentation is fine[/b], nothing special. the board doesn't look bad, audio isn't intrusive or annoying, and there are resolution options, and by picking one that's lower than your desktop's, you get windowed mode. there are also gamma and contrast settings, which is rare and always welcome, though I didn't find it necessary in this case. with this much customizability it was weird to see that [b]there are no audio settings at all[/b], even for such a low asking price, but it's still not a bad choice if you're looking for a few minutes of distraction now and then.

There are different settings to adjust difficulty and there are setups for younger children as well. All in all there are 7 different game modes, from the classic Concentration and flipping over cards trying to match two based on your memory, to involving addition or multiplication in simple arithmetic in order to produce the desired number. There is Concentration X that is a variant of the original game, where you are given a card on the left side of the screen to match with two that you flip over. Brath is using addition, while Brath X uses multiplication. There is also another mode that uses both multiplication as well as addition on a randomized board and you have to choose 3 numbers in a row to match the total outcome. If the game poses too much of a challenge at the base settings, you can adjust how many tiles are availble at the beginning of each round, ranging from 8 to 42. Of course more tiles means the game is more difficult. In some game modes, you can also choose the actual design of the tiles, instead of numbers, there are other designs such as letters, shapes, or animals. In the timed game mode that puts all of the ideas together, you can choose to turn off the timer for a more casual experience. The game also offers 2 player match, so you can play with a friend. The graphics are pleasant, having the vibes of a vintage boardgame. The music is relaxing. The game does have achievements, always a nice feature. Brath: Brain and Math offers a quick memory and concentration game for a good price. And if you like memory games, I can recommend this one. It is fun to play. Concentration is a classic so no much to say exept you can choose from different types of symbols which is cool since you don't memorize pictures or letters the same way. I've discovered Brath and I must say it is very pleasant. A bit frustrating (the good amount ;) ) but very challenging. Also the music has been well choosed and is relaxing. I think Brath deserves to be tried (you will love it if you like this kind of game) and should be used also for kids education (I don't see a better way to devellop calculus skills) aswell as exercices for keep a sharp mind (for older people).

The newest and current main game mode (3solitaire) is broken: the game never completes (goes from "1 more match" to "0 more matches" to "-1 more matches" and so on. Whether this happens to some people some of the time, all people all of the time, some people all of the time, or all people some of the time I don't know, but it's not just me. Reports on the forum have remained unanswered. Overall this is a great, polished-enough game that's fun enough to play and worthwhile as a brain exercise beyond the fun. Will certainly change my review after this one major bug is addressed.

For those who won't read the store page : [spoiler]- brath : addition of two tiles to get the target result. - brath X : multiplication instead of addition. - concentration : find any pair. - concentration X : find the targeted pair. Tiles are revealed a few seconds before starting in "kids" mode. - brath for kids : same as brath. - concentration for kids : only one card to match the selected card. - 3 solitaire : choose from three tiles in a row, multiply two of them, then add or soustract the third one and it needs to mach the selected result.[/spoiler] Each mode except 3 solitaire have a difficulty scaling, so you can see if your bain have improved or not. You can also set two players in local mode. You can choose four customised tiles ( for all concentration mode ) : numbers, letters, geometrics figures or animals. No music, meaning you can't loose your concentration because of the sound. [H1]100% achievement[/h1] Only the 3 solitaire mode related achievement is hard, and it seems bugged. [spoiler] matching "pair" reach negative score[/spoiler] As it is limited profiles features, the bugged achievement doesn't really matter. [H1]Conclusion[/h1] Classical concentration game with 4 customised tiles with some additionnal features. If you enjoyed the physical game, this cheap digital adaptation is good to have.

First of all a caution: 3Solitaire game does not end even if you make the required number of matches. So don't consider this game as part of this package. The rest of the games are as described: concentration and some math skills required which gives some good exercise for your brain. I would recommend this game even with its obvious '3Solitaire' flaw because of its low price.

Very cute game. It would be great for kids to learn math and memory skills. All forms of the game allow for numbers and letters. Most, if not all, allow for geometric figures. I fancy myself as having a good memory; this game helps to improve that. I recommend it for anyone wanting to improve memory and math abilities.
