Reviews
i was going to buy the DLC's but i hate Randy so no thanks
No
performance was ass and the story was really weird and confusing if you think about how GOOD the other borderlands villains were
I was going to come back to this game after my playtrough at launch, which I enjoyed but meh. While installing I checked the dlc's just for fun, saw the contents.. ok cool, saw the price of the dlc's... It turned me off so much I stopped the download, uninstalled and come here to finally write the review I never did before. I loved this franchise so very much. I'm sad.
Only around 16 hours in, gameplay is great, performance could be better. Not recommended because I bought the base game to try it out and ended up liking it enough to keep playing beyond the 2 hours refundable period. I now want to purchase the Super Deluxe edition but there's no way to upgrade editions. Steam supports tells me it's a 2K problem because they don't allow upgrades. 2K support tells me "we don't handle refunds, just purchase the DLCs individually", the Bounty Pack and VH Packs are more expensive than the whole Super Deluxe edition (because the SD is on sale while the DLCs aren't) Trying to get attention here because Steam/2K support won't help me.
TL;DR - Gunplay is great, story is meh/ok, optimisation is awful. Wait for a DEEP discount and pray your PC can handle the game. I'll probably finish all the side quests and DLCs but I can not in good conscience give this game a thumbs up. Gunplay - it's the borderlands you know and love. So far i've only completed the game with Vex (UVHM 5), but the guns and skills feel great. Open World - No loading screens are kinda neat but this game didn't need to be open world. It just really makes the locations feel less deliberate and more like they just had to put something there so the world feels less empty. Also I tried to play without the "ECHO-4 navigation" but more than half the time when you try to follow the quest you run into a giant mountain or a wall. this is more of a pet peeve of mine than a criticism so it isn't a big deal. Story - Very minor spoilers (names of characters that show up). The villains are SUPER forgettable, but hey atleast the story isn't cringe. The Outbounders and Electi missions just feel like filler (that's the meh part in tldr). In the Fadefields I only really enjoyed the Claptrap missions, but hey maybe that's just my nostalgia talking. In the Carcadia Burn
Zane
kinda carried the story. The Auger quest line was fine and
Zane's
banter with
Amara
during the end of the story made me smile quite a few times. Optimisation - Absolutely terrible. Game randomly crashes every like 2-6 hours. Now, I am playing on linux so maybe that played a part in it, but it's still annoying nonetheless. Also the game runs like ♥♥♥♥. As far as I'm aware it's because of the UE5 lighting engine, so don't get me wrong the lighting looks really good even on low details but it doesn't look "I'm fine with slashing my FPS by 2/3" good. I still get very decent framerate but going from 300 FPS native 1440p in BL3 to 110 FPS with FSR in BL4 is just diabolical. You pretty much need a high end PC to have a good experience. Unrelated note: Who tf made the head cosmetics and why are 90% of them so ugly....
Bought this game to play with my family, Haven’t gotten to play more then 10 minutes before an update ruined the experience. Now it’s been months and my game doesn’t update, even after reinstalling it fully. So all I get is compatibility issues.
My friend told me to buy it since its on sale and i though "Borderlands is a great series maybe the newest one would also be really good" so i bought the pandoras box and this game and i started with this first, if i was a quitter and just saw absolutely horrible this game runs, crashes left and right even at the lowest settings i don't know if there loading the map or trying to install and crypto miner on my pc, and on top of that this game is so boring , there is only ONE mission i actually enjoyed everything else just feels like filler which yes maybe there was a couple missions i rushed through because i hate playing but they are time wasters ,A majority of this game was i would've definitely refunded this game in a heartbeat but you know what i didn't , I have played for hours and i find my own ways to have fun which is to get the achievements BUT i learn this game DOES NOT EVEN HAVE ALL THE ACHIEVEMENTS OUTS, Now there isn't any point to even play this game, thankfully i just bought this dumpster fire of a game and not the dlc because the reviews on those are even worse, 2k has dropped the ball and should just focus on their true passion, Sports games, which are equally bad and are just cash grabs, Please if you actually even consider playing this game just go buy borderlands 2 or better yet the pandoras box when it is on sale because this game is a big let down ,Save your money.
