Game is fun, but AI adverts are not fun
Drop the genAI, please. Extremely disappointed, was willing to give it another try nowadays until I saw that.
Nice rythm game. It can be quite unforgiving since the songs stops after to many mistakes, where other games would just let you finish with a lower score. But this makes it more rewarding when you finaly finish the song. I had three (very) small issues with my first play, which I hope the devs can overcome: - At the beginning the songs arn't loaded. When you select a song and press "Start" the button will react but the track won't start. It will only start when the song is loaded. You know if the song is loaded, if you hear it play and the tv (on the right) will show the track. This should be changed to something more intuitive; for example showing a message when clicking "Start", changing the "Start" button to "Loading" or mentioning this behavior in the tutorial. - The other small issue, was that the first song I tried (top of the list) was quite brutal, couldn't hit anyhing. Maybe it would be handy to place something less difficult at the top when first playing. - I have the impression that it doesn't matter wether I make a swinging motion; as long as the top of the stick hits the drum its fine. Also hitting it with two sticks also seems allowed. These two dirty tricks can make it easyer to finish a song, but I hope this gets punished with a lower score. Despite mentioning some (very) small issues hindering my first play; I am glad I stuck through. The game is very fun, and had me sweating. I also like that it's not punshing or sliceing; the drumsticks are a nice variation which feels more at home in a rythm game then fists or swords.
I'm writing this review despite having only 24 minutes of gameplay because this game already has its hooks in me, now for the reasons why: 1. the quality of the presentation is ridiculously high. the main menu alone is more polished and thought out than about 87% of the rhythm games I've played, VR or not! even downloading custom maps is seamless and polished, including QoL features like ingame downloading progress bars that most people don't even notice unless they aren't there. 2. this game clearly studied from the school of beat saber, but the impressive thing is that despite that it still manages to feel original and unique enough to not be a clone or imitator. the emphasis on drumming mechanics really helps set the thing apart. in beat saber you're mostly using your wrist and not actually moving that much even in advance maps, in this game I almost fell over a few times because of how much arm swinging I had to do. the only possible negative I can think of right now is that there aren't that many custom songs to play, but I imagine that's an issue that will solve itself over time. if you're already a beat saber fanatic I doubt this will pull you away but for anyone who tries a variety of rhythm games (like me) or who's been looking for a fantastic alternative ever since beat saber was bought by facebook (also like me) I can heartily recommend this one, and I can easily say it's my VR rhythm game of choice going forward.
Ragnarock is better in every way.
Im Prinzip alles da, was man braucht.
just play beat saber, don't support games that use AI
beat saber but with all the fun bits removed
BoomBox is a competent Beat Saber clone where you hit drums from different angles instead of slicing blocks with a lightsaber. The gameplay is basically identical, but the game is not as polished as Meta’s hit game and the graphics aren’t as flashy or stylish. Still, if you are looking for more good Beat Saber alternatives, BoomBox is a game to consider. The OST is fantastic with over 30 licensed songs to choose from. There are also almost 400 royalty free songs for the community to build their own maps that can then be shared directly in the game. Highscore boards keep track of the best players in the world. So plenty of music and motivation to dance and drum to for a low asking price.
