About
Book of Travels is a serene RPG adventure that sets you adrift in a fairytale world without the restraints of linear missions and plotlines.
Book of Travels is all about the journey, not the destination. Explore the wilds and visit the cities of the Braided Shore peninsula. Wander deep into the layers of this hand-drawn world, stumble upon its hidden places or unravel its many mysteries. There is no overarching goal and no real beginning or end.

Take note: This is a game for wayfinders and wanderers and your route is not pre-destined. Instead, it will be up to you to play in your own style and to shape your own journey. Whichever way you choose to travel, you’ll soon be adding your own chapters to Book of Travels.
Roleplaying and individual playstyles
Pick one of 12 different Forms in a detailed character creation sheet that focuses on personality and identity rather than stats and classes. The game allows you to play in a style that matches your character and set your own personal goals. Are you a danger-seeking adventurer, a stoic practitioner of magic binding, or a carefree tea drinking gambler?
A narrative that won’t hold your hand
Your travels will present you with randomly occurring events making your story unique and each session different from the last. Peel back the layers of diverse plotlines and discover a deep fairytale world.
A beautiful world of uncertainty
An intricate and unique world that draws inspiration from old-world fairytales, Eastern mythologies and early industrial eras. Intricate event chains unlock items, characters, deep world secrets, and hidden gameplay features and tricks.
Communicate using symbols
Learn to use a unique set of symbols to communicate with other players.
Innovative RPG systems
Define your character by unlocking and mastering 100+ abilities, magical skills and passive feats that will have a huge impact on your character and open different experiences of the game. Gain experience in numerous ways: by exploring, being courteous, gathering and trading. Battles can be rewarding, but you will learn more in defeat than in victory.
The world is a hand painted diorama

Been a backer way back before release and revisiting now that it's going to go offline. As much as I wish for a coop function - I understand the issues that lead to take servers down with no such option. >>This game is perfect to rest and recalibrate overstimulated minds. I especially love the small hints and hidden lore everywhere. A true piece of art. << I'll update my review once I finished exploring the game fully in its current version. Please feel free to join me on my journeys by leaving a comment, I'll add you then.
Beautiful game ! I just wish i discovered it sooner, i had no idea such gem existed <3 So sad the multiplayer is canceled, would have loved to play it as a tmmo
Gave me some UO vibe...but thats all the + I can say about this chore-galore.
A cancelled story-focussed "indie MMO" with some very interesting ideas. Sadly, development has been stopped and they're pulling the plug on all online components in a few weeks from the time of writing. This could have been something amazingly unique and uniquely amazing, but in its current state I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I really enjoyed the couple of hours I put into this game some years ago. I had been waiting for it to be "completed" before spending more time in it, but I never understood how they were going to make it work as a long term project in terms of monetising it and such. The most recent announcement is a little odd, but honestly I think its for the best. It was cool coming across a random person but it happens so infrequently and the game really feels like it should be a singleplayer experience. I know lots of people are upset, and they have every right to be - especially the kickstarter backers and such... But I'm happy with the change personally, because the game won't just disappear now. I hope that one day maybe they are able to add more content to it over time, but even if this is literally the end of development entirely (as they have said it is), I'm looking forward to spending a bunch of time in it, and for the new price, its an easy recommend tbh.
Runs like molasses on my mid-high end system. Also multiplayer game that plans to kill servers by the end of the month.
Ein bisschen was ist da in meinem book of travels zusammen gekommen. Kaufen würde ich das Spiel nur, wenn es mal deutlich reduziert ist.
while the game has been sunset, offline removed, its still a very chill single player experience, id suggest looking up a basic guide to get started as going in knowing nothing can be a bit jarring, but once you get the hang of it, its a very chill game. once your there, its a total vibe, if you've played games like old school runescape, sky cotl, stardewvalley, mirthwood, etc i think you'll enjoy this game, and for $4.99 its well worth the price.
This is a really cute game. The graphics are unique and the adventure is nice. I looted everything I stumbled across and bought every skill book I found. Despite all the positives, this game is just too slow paced for me. It's a click and move game.
The music is a vibe, the art work is beautiful
