This is a game that could have been great if there had been a map, but it is merely good without it. Apparently there is a map room, but I never found it! The world is huge and I went through it twice and completed 98%. Don't know where the rest is! I completed the epilogue and tried to find more, but was unsuccessful. Graphics are minimal with a very pallid monochrome world with flashes of colour when you completed a monolith. Be aware that it is very hard on the eyes!! Along your journey, you come across various collectables such as steles which relate the story of The Way and the downfall of an ancient civilisation. I found only half of the 76 of them. There are also echoes (black spots) - I found 60 of the 67. The redeeming factor is that you can glide around and if you climb a mountain, you will have a birds eye view of the world. That was the fun part. Being a scavenger hunt, you have to climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow....oops...er...go down every rabbit hole and building. You can build, cut, push, clean and fade things along the way. WASD was my best friend. There are minimal instructions and I didn't know I had to collect things, so I had to start all over again, so I wasn't a happy Vegemite!! Many reviewers say that the game has a zen factor. It certainly has an ethereal feel about it with tinkling music in the background. It is a calm sedate game with no fighting in it. Puzzles were very easy. Buy in the June sale. Some of the achievements were ridiculous! 7.5/10
a visually and musically stunning game with some interesting puzzle mechanics that i struggle to recommend, especially at full price. the problem is down to one thing for me - the game world is simply too large for how little there is in it. there's only a few puzzle locations which are separated by large distances, and in between the only thing to do is pick up a scattered collectable and read some proverbs. while the game is visually stunning, it's not detailed at the player level, so you're traversing large distances of flat white surfaces a lot of the time. the game doesn't really tell you where to go or what to do, which would be fine if the world wasn't so big you're left wandering this empty space aimlessly. initially the exploration was fun, but within half an hour i was just getting frustrated. a pity, because it looks so good, and it's got some good ideas. as it stands, at a super deep discount, it would only be a cautious recommendation.
The non-linear story is wonderful. Seriously, try to read as many of the placards as possible. The puzzles are not incredibly difficult and the chill of the game is well put together. Music is on point. Though, I'll admit they got a bit repetitive when I was stuck in some areas. I will say, I appreciated collecting all the 67 echoes. Thought the "final puzzle" was clever. Also, the map is HUGE, but if you practice the mechanics of the game, you'll get to zipping around in no time. You get exactly what the game promises and that's just neat. Wish the developers would come together to make another game at some point.

Bokida is a very peaceful and relaxing puzzle/exploration game with light beam puzzles and charming ambient music. The dual color scheme used throughout the game got me lost a few times, usually in the darker regions. Thankfully, the ingame world has detailed enough geography that I didn't feel like I wandered without a clue too often. Finally, I deeply enjoyed some of the visuals in this game, like the corridors of infinity or the beautiful lighting of the dark world. I didn't have high expectations for this game considering the price I bought it for (3 dollars, on sale), so I'm rather happy to say it exceeded them completely. If nothing else, Bokida is a beautiful and poignant love letter to non-duality and Tao/Taoism (referenced throughout the game). I can't think of anything I know of that better illustrates non-duality. That makes this a very unique game in my eyes. Definitely worth playing.
Can't believe how Minecraft has change
A brief experience with the markings of a game with greater scope, but which falls short of this realization. You are given four physics based abilities to start, with the option to unlock more through gameplay, which all together would serve as a great foundation for a physics based puzzler. However, only two abilities are ever required for the scant number of puzzles encountered over a 100% completion playthrough. Instead, the bulk of the game is spent slowly gliding through the minimalist environment, scouting out black dots against the textureless landscape while suffering the sluggish and grating movement system. The surrounding architecture is dull and aside from player made structures, which the player is never incentivised to build, the use of contrasting colors against the starkly white environment is only ever utilized twice, making the minimalist design feel bland and underutilized. All this to say the game feels underdeveloped in many facets. Fans of games such as Antichamber, Manifold Garden or NaissanceE will recognize a lot of elements shared with Bokida - Heartfelt Reunion, and will like myself likely end up disappointed when these elements don't enrich the game in meaningful or cohesive ways.
I originally played this when I first bought it but ended up never finishing it then. Last month I tried again and almost gave up, after a 3h session today I finished the game and I can't say I feel any "pride" or "accomplishment". The game just isn't fun. It's nice to look at in small doses, but the actual gameplay is, well, boring, uninspired and bad. Pretty much anyone that had fun with this game for more than one playthrough did so because they used the games mechanics to make their own fun... because, again, the game does not provide any. The game does look great in small doses, but an hour or so in and you start feeling like your vision is failing you. Don't buy this game if you expect a puzzle game, Don't buy it if you expect adventure! ... or a story worth a damn, or fun, or entertainment. Don't even buy it if you're expecting a walking or flying simulator. Buy it just for the world, it is pretty to look at. And maybe, if you're a game dev, buy it to see what a minimalist art style looks like when done right. And, if you're name is Willian Chyr buy it just so you can admire the way the programmers implemented portals. But otherwise, stay away from this "game". We've had a lot of really pretty and artsy puzzle games, The Witness, The Sojourn, The Talos Principle, Bokida on the other hand really shouldn't be in the puzzle category. Frankly, I have no idea in what category this game should be in. "Bad gameplay" maybe?
