Absolutely adore this game for so many reasons, the mechanics, the style, the writing that has made me laugh out loud more than once, to name a few. This has become a staple of mine for picking up and playing, especially while winding down before bed. I finally finished my first Bibi run just last night, I fully expected my run to be cut short (furthest I had gotten was the Blue Knight boss) only to ascend all the way to the top. The credits were an absolute delight. I cannot wait to dive further and further into the meat of this game and really sink my teeth in to the intricacies of the other playable characters. If this game appeals to you, if you think you'd have fun playing it; give it a try and be patient with it, trust me when I say it is worth the investment.
Really underrated, the best rougelike ive played! congrats Mysticat, this deserves more attention!
It feels bad, but I have to give this game a negative review. It does a lot well, but has some major problems which just make it far too punishing. I love the graphics, the music and sound design are great too. The game is a rogue-like, which I normally love, but I just can't with this game. It is extremely easy to die in this game, and to the games credit it's really quick to start up a new run. However it starts to become frustrating when you start getting locked in rooms with literally no way to succeed. The in game economy doesn't feel balanced either, most items have very high costs and aren't very useful. Some of the time you'll clear the entire floor and not even have enough currency for a single upgrade. Upgrades in the game come in the form of weapons and spells, all of which add more tiles to your attack. This also comes with a negative however, because that also changes if you will move or attack by accident and end up taking damage instead. You unlock new potential upgrades by completing in game challenges, however you then also need to buy the unlock with Gems, another currency you can rarely find in game. This feels like an unnecessary extra hurdle, as you can end up completing a challenge only to have no Gems to actually get your new gear. The game also doesn't really give you any help at all. Some of the enemies on later floors just don't die, with the game giving you no feedback as to why. At one point I hit some creature at least 7 times in a row, to seemingly no effect, only to have it kill me in one hit when I tried to move around it to maybe hit it from another side. I'm not sure how long the game is, as I've never managed to complete a single run successfully in all my time playing. I've never seen the titular Bobo, so I'm not sure how far along in the game I was.
This game makes me feel dumb.
[SUMMARY] The Labyrinths of Legend of Zelda (1986) and Lights Out Cube (1995) chess style puzzle game comingled to test your skills and patience. This atmospheric retro game has a quick learning curve, but knowing the move set doesn't make it any easier (like Chess). Each room is randomized and requires you to preplan your next 2-3 steps to ensure a proper setup to kill the various enemies, however you can pick a seed number (like perhaps 666) to re-playthrough the exact labyrinth layout if you are trying to best a specific walkthrough. The base enemy (skeleton) attacks straight on and requires two hits, so either you need to ensure he has a buffer space behind him or already have one hit in before striking him with a wall behind him. The various treasure pots are used strategically to be struck so as to pass a movement turn, whereas the enemies are always forced to move once towards you every single time (the game performs a back and forth round based system like cards or chess). Some enemies, like bats, can only attack on the diagonal or only move once every two turns. The more enemies and barrels you kill/destroy the more coins you can collect which can be used for health restore or weapon upgrades. Weapon upgrades will allow your hit zones to expand to multiple boxes, which when used properly can be a great advantage. You will need to be aware of the flammable bomb barrels, however the game pre-notifies you whether or not moving into a square is dangerous move or not. The 8-bit atmospheric retro music compliments the game well and reminds me of a game like Inscryption. [SUGGESTIONS] 1) I feel like the game would benefit from a limited use "Restart Room" option. Once you start to progress far into the game you make a mistake move in a room and realize you're checkmated it can be frustrating to have to start all over again. Even if its once per playthrough that still would be a sweet addition. 2) A little more explanation on the Secrets+ would help. As you progress you find "Secrets" which seem like they more like boosters/stat enhancers. 3) Unless I am missing something you can't go back upstairs once you go down. I wanted to return to a upgrade dealer as I few a few coins short and realized I couldn't go back up which seemed odd. [RATING] 8/10 [FINAL THOUGHTS] As a kid who grew up playing puzzle games, specifically lights out cube, this game is both challenging, fun and frustrating. Its the perfect way to take your mind off of the world around you and focus in on something that stimulates your mind in a good way. Shout out to the dev and GrandPooBear and his team for the great addition to my steam library // xoxo MariosDumper //
Fun! Can be tricky at times. But yeah, fun! IDK what else to say.
call me a regular at the new york deli the way i'm going for that Melt
While I do like a lot about this game, I ultimately find it too hard to make meaningful progress. A lot of the upgrades you unlock are tied to specific characters, so unlike other roguelikes, it can feel like you're not really giving yourself any more advantages as you play. I really really want to like it... and maybe one day I will. I'll certainly keep trying.
A really charming and unique entry into the rogue-like genre. Combat puzzles feel consistently satisfying to solve and items you pick up along the way do a great job of shifting how you approach rooms. Really enjoying it so far and can't wait to see what secrets there are to find with subsequent runs.
