So this game is old, from a time when the Play Station 2 was king (Was the system I first played BlowOut on) and Doom 3 wasn't around to melt pc's just yet. It shows it's age as a game designed for console ported to pc, the most advanced video setting is brightness...and that's pretty much it. Mouse controls are a tad jank but something I quickly got used to, it's a fun little side scrolling shooter dangerously similar to Metroid but fun non the less. If you can get passed the lack of options and the hyperactive mouse controls, you'll have a blast. It's kinda sad to see a decent game go unplayed but it was fairly basic, but I feel it's simplicity is it's strength.
Not working on Win 10 x64.
Follow my curator page for more recommendations!
BlowOut is 2.5D Metroidvania-like with clear inspiration from the Contra series, as well as the the Aliens film. This game was also on the Playstation 2 and original Xbox. Unfortunately, the PC port is pretty shoddy. It does work on Windows 10 x64, unlike what that other review says for some reason. However, there are zero graphical settings, no windowed mode, if you have dual monitors then your mouse will constantly click out of the game at the worst times, there's no in-game way to change the resolution (here's a guide on how to set a custom resolution), and no rebinding of keys (can manually change them through the blowout.ini file but it's a bit confusing). If you're going to play this, I strongly urge you to play it with a controller. So why the recommendation, then? Well, because if you set a custom resolution and play with a controller, it's an enjoyable time, especially for the whopping 69 cents it goes on sale for often. There are plenty of secrets to find on each of the 10 levels, a decent variety of weapons, having a jetpack instead of a jump button is fun, and the voice acting is so bad it's almost good. Don't bother with this game if you're wanting an interesting plot, the story in this game is almost nonexistent. There are definitely better Metroidvanias out there to choose from, but if you like going back to old PS2/Xbox games and don't mind the jank of the PC port, it's a decent one to pick up on sale.
Blowout seemed quite interesting metroidvania game at first, but it has good amount of issues going for it. First would be controls which should have been overhauled or worked on for PC version. Mouse is incredibly unusable and spin to the 2nd screen and pops you out of the game, also aiming is pretty hard since it goes all over the place even with changing sensitivity settings. Controller would have been the option to go, but it seemed like game didn't recognize it though Steam popups did show in game for controller added. So only option was to go with keyboard which game was ok to play. First level was good fun with few different enemies, new weapon, boss fight to go through, but in second level fast noticed how you will lose all progress due annoying lasers which instakill you. There are "S" for safepoints on map, but they aren't save points, instead they only fill your health bar and that doesn't really help with lasers. Tested game with invincibility cheat for this level and think it's not worthwhile to tackle through due losing progress all the time and with cheat it's not fun either. Boss fight in second level was new boss, but it was copy pasted so there were three of them and extremely tanky and targeting was quite finicky. Would be pretty annoying to get to the boss and die there to play quite long level again through with some instant death traps. So it's a Dropout for me and removal from account.
Игра детства! Помню мелкий боялся играть и ночами не спал)))
This game was HUGE for me as a kid, unfortunately during the many moves my parents made, the disk for my Xbox Original was lost and only the game guide and the empty case remained.... When I saw this on the steam store it was an unexpected but very much so welcome surprise! My only real complaint about the port of this from console to PC is the Mouse is a little jank and the Audio is inconceivably loud
Why is it that those pesky aliens are infesting our spaceships and installations? We are forced to blow them out of existence. Contrary to the naysayers BlowOut runs just fine on Win10x64 in 16:9 full screen for me without the need of a wrapper like dgvoodoo. K/M control scheme: LCtrl activate LM fire RM jet pack MWheel weapon select WASD movement It's a blast from the past but still holds it's own against contemporary shovelware. Absolutely worth picking up on a sale.
BlowOut is a classic. I used to play this all the time on PS2 and Gamecube back in the day. Your objective is simple. Get through each level, find the keys, kill a bunch of mutated monsters, and have fun! You start with an infinite ammo machinegun and a jetpack to help you get from one floor to another on an abandoned and deteriorating space station. Just know that it is an older game, so there may be some bugs. For me, the xbox one controller won't work but I think an xbox360 one will but have yet to test it as it has been years since my last time playing. Overall, things have worked just fine for me aside from an error message at launch but doesn't seem to affect gameplay in any way.
This game is hard enough, but having no checkpoints and no savestates doesn't make it better. This is a very poor Metroid clone, with the worst mouse controls I've ever seen in a video game. At first I thought that the game was glitching, but then I realized that it's just how it works: mouse look depends on cursor position, making your character turn left and right when you don't want him to. There are 10 levels in the game, they are hard, long and tedious. I cannot afford playing for hours and hours just to beat one level in one sitting. That times are over. And on top of all things, the game doesn't recognize any modern game controllers.
This released the same year as BloodRayne 1, but somehow this optimization is worse, and the controls are like trying to wrestle a chimpanzee. I enjoyed Terminal Reality's time while it lasted, but this has aged like milk... and it's well past its sell by date. So unless there's some fixes that are released 20-something years after the game's release, it's going to remain unplayable in this format.
