Atmosphere of VTMB1, mixed with Diablo. Mind you this is the product of a dedicated single indie developer. I think it has multiple good mechanics such as hidden doors, locked/trapped containers, intimidation (an improvement from first game), sire tree (little idle farming action), better alchemy, and others. Combat is more fluid, but in all aspects, dont expect Diablo III or Dark Souls. It is a tribute to times where games needed their own manual and you needed to figure things out. A solid game for a small price.
First game was better. This game didn't catch my attention as the first one did. I'm sorry.
Bloodlust: Nemesis is a moody vampire crawler with a dark wave, post punk vibe. Bite in and taste the angst. It's not as feature complete as it's predecessor, Bloodlust: Shadowhunters, but is much more visually stunning. Both games nail the goth aesthetic complete with an excellent soundtrack. I enjoyed exploring the city and completing quests to develop my standing with the ruling vampire clans. There is a lot of heart an ambition underlying the janky gameplay which consists mostly of ability spamming and jump dodging. Character progression is especially quick for the player with a min/max mindset who delves deep down into the randomized dungeons. There are secrets to discover, puzzles to solve and even the ability to build an army of vampire thralls, though they mostly just stand in the way. My main criticism is that the end of the story comes too soon. Play continues after the final boss, but I want more, more, more! I want to continue role playing in the Bloodlust universe so buy more WRF Studios games, please!
Amazing. We have few vampire RPGs to chose from. Despite the lack of quality on animations and fact that you can only use a crossbow and a 9mm gun in ranged combat and lacks of spells, Idon't have much to complain. Very interesting dungeon crawler. Good itemization and good quest design.
Reminds me of runescape, but more complicated. Maybe if i found this game in 2006 i would have liked it.
Total dumpster fire. For starters, the game does a very poor job of explaining the mechanics. For example, the bite ability allows you to feed on random innocents to restore health. But it also allows you to sire those humans if you drain enough health. I have 3 different sired people that I can summon at will, but no idea what the point is. Do they level up? I think so, but I haven't seen it happen. Do they gain special abilities? No idea. Can I gear them up so they stand a chance in combat? Again, nobody knows. No seriously, nobody actually knows. If you google guides for the game, you get a couple of youtube hits and a bunch of websites inviting you to start content for it, because nobody else has. Eventually, you just wander through a couple dungeons that are all pretty much the same thing. Fight your way down to basement level 5 and farm the key that gets you to the boss.
I actually have way more hours into this (used an external launcher with fix mods). After some research on how to improve the game's performance, it became a gem of a game.
If you liked Shadow-Hunter I believe you'll also enjoy Nemesis. As in this is a decent vampire-centric-action-looter-rpg that plays out akin to a janky Diablo within the context of an urban fantasy setting. There's much to do about certain vampires trying to create a synthetic artificial blood compound that can boost their power-levels exponentially. Different fractions are now scurrying for their pieces of the pie after the untimely death of the local over-lord whilst you are yet another glorified errand runner in this world of B-movie darkness! Comparing the Bloodlust series to VTM: Blood-Lines is pointless. As in Blood-Lines had a lot more "role-playing" whereas Blood-Lust is more about braving dungeons crawling with indescribable horrors to bring back awesome gear. (Weapons, armor, trinkets, etc.) From there you engage in the occasional boss-fight with some of the most quirky 4th wall breaking bat-heads ever to grace the crimson screen! There's a lot of pop-cultural references that seem more "On the nose" compared to Shadow-Hunter. I'd say Nemesis takes itself less seriously and is a bit more comedic. However, many of the eccentric characters you interact with are still a likable bunch! As before you unlock and upgrade vampire powers that gradually turn you into a moving force of destruction. As before you can also sire lesser vampire servants by drinking humans dry then recruiting them onto your night-shift of the damned! It's a fun concept that still works really well for the most part. The most controversial edition to Nemesis is "The Wraith". Remember how the Grim-Reaper would chase you in Gauntlet? Same thing happens here and if he catches you you end up in his lair and have to depart hastily. Frankly, I don't know what purpose this serves. Maybe on higher difficulties he takes some of your equipment, experience points, and a random vampire familiar but more than anything else this is just an annoying detour when it happens. The Wraith's presence ties into the main story in an interesting way but beyond that his inclusion seems pointless. I kinda get what the developer was going for. A lot of survival horror games have that one unkillable monster or unkillable ghost to ramp up the tension. The problem is The Wraith is not truly scary and simply interrupts you on your way to complete quests. While the over-world is fascinating and alive with personality the dungeons tend to be very repetitive. Almost all the floors for each given zone look copy-paste with ever so slight alterations in the overall lay-outs. Meanwhile enemy-mobs can literally spawn in on top of you. It's nothing you cannot overcome with enough grinding and equipment managing but it gets cumbersome on those longer stretches. To add insult to injury there are cheap foes that can one-shot you if you do not take them out at a distance fast enough. Despite my qualms the fact Bill has made all these games by himself is nothing short of incredible. He has single-handedly created an alternative universe for the people like me whom were huge fans of White Wolf's "World Of Darkness". If you can forgive a game with the typical quirks associated with older dungeon-crawlers I highly recommend this one! To the developer Things I dig + The world building and the lore accentuate and enhance the core experience amicably. + Finally, another dark fantasy horror themed dungeon crawler within a modern setting! + Once you get engrossed it's very hard to put down! +Boss fights are generally well thought out. + A weirdly wonderful bestiary of creepy-crawlers! My criticisms -Why do all the clothes I find on BloodLust's mean streets look like Good-Will cast-aways? Why can't I make my vamp look sexy and seductive? I understand this may have been to project a more realistic-down-on-your-luck-in-the-ghetto-aesthetic but I'm just not feeling it. Saintsrow 2 and 3 would be good references for inspiration when considering customization and accessory options in a future game. -I wish the dungeons had fewer floors with less repetitive ways to progress. Additionally the "enemy-mob-balance" is very mercurial in its' abrupt fluctuations! -Certain hints and tips alluding to main-story-line-missions could be vague or misleading. However, I prefer some detective work over too much hand holding. I was able to figure out things eventually. Exactly how much a game should go out of its' way to be accommodating is going to vary subjectively from person to person. It can be quite the undertaking to hit that "just right" margin of the goldy-locks-zone! - The Wraith is a good concept in theory but annoying in practice!
Not as good as the first(shadowhunter)
