Abandonware garbage. You still have to work for the majority of items in free mode and it is nearly impossible to have a good score. Last update was about 2024. Please do not buy this game
I guess back to The Movies game I go. When Blockbuster Inc. released, it was pretty barebones with not many choices. It was a rushed release, sadly. Felt like it should've been an Early Access game considering all the updates they did to it to catch up. I stopped playing to let this game cook and recently came back to see nothing has been done to it for over a year+ and they didn't make enough money to continue development. Sad to see this abandoned and gone now.
Abandoned and incomplete. Shame really as the game was fun and had potential, but the game wasn't very challenging and needed more content to make it worth a buy.
Developers left it for dead! Not worth $25 for an incomplete game, don't waste your time.
If I could refund it I would. I looked forward to the potential this game had, but it hasn't been updated in 2 years and is definately not worth the price as is.
While the gameplay isn't amazing, it is really fun for cinephiles like me to just play a game where you can make movies. The number of animations is limited, but you can get creative with the ones you have. Definitely a top 5 game for me personally
Very fun to build lots of toilet stalls and force staff to walk through the maze of toilet stalls
The game broke after about 4 hours of gameplay ruining my one and only save with nobody helping me with it... plus the AI trailer... Don't buy it.
I'm sad to see so many negative reviews for this game. I was obsessed with The Movies back in the day & I cannot get it to play on my current computer, so when I discovered this game randomly, I was so excited. If you enjoyed The Movies and, like me, cannot play it anymore, this is a fun alternative, which is very similar. If you're still playing The Movies, you may not need to bother with this unless you just want to try something new. If you've never played this type of game but enjoy simulators, movies, and challenges, then give this game a try. The scenes, costumes, and animations are more limited than I'd like, if more people play perhaps the Devs will give us some updates. Still a lot of fun and enough options to keep me interested and enjoying making short films.
Blockbuster Inc. is an engaging business simulation that places players in charge of transforming a modest film studio into a globally recognized entertainment powerhouse. Developed by Super Sly Fox and published by EndGameLoop Games, the title blends creative filmmaking with strategic management, allowing players to oversee nearly every aspect of movie production. Rather than limiting gameplay to financial decisions, it encourages players to become producers, directors, and executives simultaneously, balancing artistic ambition with commercial success. The result is a management experience that celebrates the magic of cinema while rewarding careful planning and imaginative storytelling. The game's biggest appeal comes from the extensive control it gives players over the filmmaking process. Every production begins with selecting the right script, genre, cast, and crew before moving into set construction, filming, and post-production. The ability to design unique movie sets, arrange props, customize locations, and experiment with different creative ideas makes each project feel personal. Instead of relying on repetitive templates, Blockbuster Inc. encourages experimentation, letting players combine genres and production choices to create films that reflect their own vision while appealing to evolving audience demands. Building and expanding the studio itself is equally rewarding. Players gradually unlock new facilities, production stages, research departments, and employee amenities that improve efficiency and attract better talent. The layout of the studio has a meaningful impact on workflow, encouraging thoughtful planning rather than random expansion. As the company grows, managing multiple productions at once becomes increasingly complex, requiring players to balance budgets, schedules, staffing, and technological upgrades without sacrificing quality. This progression creates a satisfying sense of accomplishment as a small independent studio slowly transforms into a thriving entertainment empire. Talent management introduces another layer of strategic depth. Actors, directors, writers, and technical staff each possess individual skills, personalities, and career potential. Finding the right people for specific projects often determines whether a movie becomes a critical success or a financial disappointment. Employees gain experience over time, allowing promising newcomers to develop into major stars if given the right opportunities. At the same time, maintaining morale, avoiding overwork, and investing in staff development become important long-term considerations, making personnel management just as important as producing blockbuster films. One of the game's strongest qualities is its variety. Players are free to create everything from romantic dramas and action-packed thrillers to science fiction adventures, horror films, fantasy epics, and television productions. Audience interests evolve over time, preventing players from relying on a single winning formula throughout the campaign. Adapting to market trends while still pursuing creative ambitions creates an enjoyable balance between artistic freedom and business strategy. Researching new technologies and production techniques further expands available options, ensuring that gameplay continues to evolve as the studio advances through different eras of filmmaking. Visually, Blockbuster Inc. embraces a colorful and approachable art style that perfectly matches its lighthearted atmosphere. The animated characters, bustling studio lots, and detailed production environments successfully capture the excitement behind creating movies. Watching actors perform on carefully designed sets while camera crews and technicians bring scenes to life gives productions a tangible sense of authenticity. The interface organizes its many systems clearly, making it relatively easy to navigate despite the considerable amount of management involved. Complementing the visuals is an enjoyable soundtrack and fitting ambient audio that reinforce the feeling of running a busy film studio without becoming distracting during extended play sessions. Although the game delivers an impressive simulation overall, it is not entirely without flaws. As players become familiar with its mechanics, maintaining financial stability becomes less demanding, reducing some of the challenge during the later stages of a campaign. Rival studios rarely provide enough competitive pressure to consistently threaten an established company, and certain production tasks can become repetitive after dozens of hours. While these issues do not diminish the enjoyment of creating films, more dynamic competitors and deeper late-game management systems would have added greater longevity and strategic variety. Despite these shortcomings, Blockbuster Inc. succeeds as a charming and feature-rich studio management simulator that captures both the creative excitement and business realities of the film industry. Its combination of studio building, employee management, filmmaking, technological progression, and creative freedom offers an experience that stands out among management games. Players who enjoy simulation titles with a strong emphasis on creativity will find plenty of reasons to keep expanding their studios, discovering new production strategies, and chasing the next cinematic hit. It successfully balances accessible gameplay with meaningful management mechanics, making it an enjoyable choice for both newcomers and longtime fans of the genre. Rating: 6/10
