This game has a ton of wasted potential to sum it up in a single word. When I first played the demo, I was super excited to play the full game and after finishing the main campaign I can't explain my feelings with a better word than disappointment. To understand of why I feel that way you need to know two main things: 1-The game core mechanic is parrying 2-The game "Tries" to encourage aggressive play style but the problem is that the game after the first 2-3 worlds and at each boss fight ignore the single most important thing about it which is the parry mechanic where non of the bosses attacks' can be parryed and to take it a step further the game introduce tons of enemies with the same issue and. the worst part that it does not stop at destroying the first point but it goes on and kill the second point with bad crowd distribution where the game put lots of enemies with no space to control the crowd of enemies that already can't be countered with a parry and the issue gets even more annoying with smaller enemies like mice and bees that keep coming in great numbers and fast attack patterns. Another major issue with stopping encouraging aggressive play style is enemies who keep teleporting and have invisible frames after teleporting which is a genuinely dumb idea simply because such an ability should support faster reactions and more movement but the game thinks other wise. Another less major issue is that the worlds of the game starts to feel repetitive after 6-8 rounds at max even though the game itself is so short and can be finished within 5-8 hours and the whole world before the library has no meaning other than adding another world to the game. The last major issue is all bosses are under level and does not complement the worlds especially the final one. I really am disappointed because the game could've been so much better and I really wish two see a sequel that fixes the first game because it has so much potential to be a great game.
To be frank i like this games combat and how it feels and after beating the game and no hitting each boss i can say that parry is not a useful mechanic in this game. The combat does get frustrating as all you are fighting are the same enemies but they are stronger now. I want to recommend this game but its feel like the gameplay was never tested. If looking for the main points here they are: HP and defense stat barely matter dump into attack stat Losing XP and gaining XP feel like a chore You basically can't grind XP as the only major XP bonus is to complete a level for the first time. Items are too rare and you can lose them pretty fast The gameplay gets boring as the most viable strategy is rolling rolling rolling A certain big enemy is not fun to fight and will 3 shot you If you don't kill enemies fast enough you can easily get overwhelmed Bosses were cool easy but cool MY F***ING RINGS GIVE ME BACK MY RINGS.
The game frequently relies on unblockable attacks and tight spaces, leaving almost no room for error. other than this game isnt difficult. level system is also useless in every new biome stats of enemies scales with you. trial and error nature can shift from "challenging" to "tedious" once the initial novelty of the art style wears off.
In my opinion this game is underrated. What it offers is bite-sized, hack-n-slash levels that last one or two minutes each. How I've played through the game is in small chunks at a time, a handful of levels here and there, and it's been a fun little time killer. The combat (roll and parry) are satisfying, levelling up your stats make a noticeable difference, and some boss fights feel like Souls bosses. I would recommend this as a casual time killer.
This game is alright. I recommend just playing the campaign once or twice and not touching the others modes or going for 100 % achievements. As it requires 4 playthroughs, and an impossible achievement since the develeper gave up.
Amazed nobody talks about how good this game is. Bit repetitive, but decently and satisfyingly challenging.
I think there's more good than bad here, but not for the price. Get it on sale. Sadly, it is style over substance but the style is definitely pretty cool. Gameplay is okay, but it also gets repetitive fairly quickly.
the game is fun but the later levels feel too punishing and tedious with how a single mistake can force you to restart
loved it so much i bought two copies! 10/10
