Dungeon research

STORY
An evil necromancer has taken over the castle. Our task is to defeat him.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is a roguelite platformer with battles. There are several large locations filled with enemies, bosses and traps. As the hero progresses, he gains gold (items are bought for it) and experience (the hero receives a progression). As a rule, you need to find a key that will allow you to leave the location. Consider the pros and cons of the game, sum up.
PROS:
+ Simple but nice graphics. + Good music and sound accompaniment. + Good progression of heroes. + Many types of enemies, bosses, traps. + Random generation of locations, they have secret places.
WHAT CAN BE BOTH A PLUS AND A MINUS:
+- In my opinion, the game is too difficult both in terms of battles and platforming. But someone might like it.
CONS:
- Not detected.
CONCLUSIONS
The game has a good amount of content, large locations, many enemies, a progression of heroes. Fans of the genre should love it.
This seems like it could be a neat side scroller dungeon crawler, but it's completely ruined by the terrible movement. Holding an arrow key moves you, but you continue moving for several steps after letting go. To make this worse, this only happens after you've been moving for a short while. So you can't even easily adjust for it, because sometimes you'll keep moving after you tell the game to stop and sometimes you won't. It makes it extremely difficult and frustrating when it really shouldn't be.
It has more options than the first game, such as 3 classes instead of one and better graphics, but less functionality: I don't think I can rebind keys properly and it places "Y" on "Z" for me and on a Slovene keyboard setup that means a lot of stretching to reach a button the game expects me to spam. Nope, you had a perfectly good control scheme that worked really well in the first game once you got used to it, why ditch what worked so much better? E.g. Just jumping up by merely pressing the up arrow key is a lot easier in this type of game than space because space is huge in comparison and will mess up my timing merely by being more cumbersome. Nope, should be better, but it feels worse to play it, plus monsters here aren't as static as in 1, so you'll need to think more defensively and maneuver better, which gets frantic and with too much finesse required for me to do remotely well since I'm usually incredibly bad at 2D platforming. If you're good at 2D platforming and the keys align for you, go for it. If you're bad at 2D platforming like me, but hoping for a game that won't feel like repeatedly hitting a wall, get the first game and enjoy it.
Devious Dungeon 2 is an action platformer with pseudo meta progression and pseudo rpg (basically only leveling up to increase damage etc.) elements. Pros: + First hour of the game looks promising and fun. Cons: Basically everything after an hour of gameplay. - Mediocre pixel art. Same recycled enemies over and over with a little addition. - Unbalanced grind and enemy placement (yeah put that enemy on the edge of the platform so it will be impossible to pass if you are low on hp) - Boring level design, even some tiles and background changes, everything feels the same with an increased difficulty. - A lifeless, bleak, soulless game world. (Nothing there to feed the imagination, been there seen there done that...) - Bad control scheme, uses a button for attack and a button for jump... So Up cursor should be used to attack upwards right? Of course not, theres no directional attacking. Only sideways. So what was the point for adding a jump button really. Same goes for the down cursor. Do you duck/crouch, no, do you attack downwards, no, you only use the down cursor to descend the platform but guess what, you have to push down cursor and jump at the same time to descend, this is such a bad idea since down cursor does nothing other than descending. - Mediocre music, at least it is not annoying. - Uninspired sound effects. - Boredom. Even at boss fights you yawn. There was a point instead of clearing a level completely i started to quickly look for the key and finish it. Zero wonder factor after an hour. FINAL
3/10
This game only appeals to you if you are only dedicated to play every platformer on the market and finished all your alternatives. At this state, it is not a very very bad game or effort but adds nothing new to the genre and stands as substandard.
The difficulty comes more from RNG on map layout than skill from fighting your foes. The only real skill required in the game is the boss fights. Bang your head against the wall until you get a favorable map/monsters! I still enjoyed the first half of the game, just getting through the last two zones were a slog
Kind of a copy & paste of the first one, but hey ! Why would you change a recipe that works ? You just don't, and that's what they did (or did not).
Not even worth 3$ (on sale) so forget about 10.50$, it's overpriced more than it should be. It's a generic and boring game that isn't worth purchasing at all, base price should be about 0.99$. I have played and 100% this game on the PS Vita, it is a mediocre game at best but that's on the PS Vita and for mobile phones but for the PC? It's just bad. Game is repetitive, you'll have seen what the game is about in barely 5 minutes, about 1 hour or two to see everything that the game has to offer. Ratalaika games are very bad, and this one is probably one of the best, if not the best. Get Rogue Legacy, it is a way better game and its sequel is also good.
Devious Dungeon 2 is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a cheap, lazy cash grab. It's an ultra simple metroidvania style 2D retro pixel dungeon brawler/platformer with lightweight RPG elements. It's a copy + paste of Devious Dungeon, an attempt from morally bankrupt mobile developers to get paid twice for the same game. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. The game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game, to avoid doing the important job of level/map design. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthough for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. In an attempt to scam PC gamers, the developers gave this a ridiculous $7 USD price tag, but it's only $3 on the mobile app stores. Developers must learn that PC gamers are not victims ready for them to scam and gouge. This is an unacceptable insult to PC gamers from unethical, amoral greedy mobile devs, and cannot be accepted.
EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH........! It might be a bit better than the first one, but...! Even if you get used to the slight lag/stutter as you jump and the mobility of the character... The hit boxes... You then will go on to have fun for maybe an hour or so? Then you go on to have the same problem as their other games (not just Devious Dungeon)... Where you nearly get all the Achievements... Before you even reach World 3 and somehow... Somehow you aren't having any fun anymore. Sure there are lots of upgrades and such... But the game is purely based on how lucky you get and what monsters are there, versus your own skills. I don't even know if it matters what build/character you make and after finishing two worlds... I just feel drained from playing this. If you enjoyed this -> Cool. More power to ya. As for me... I just can't force myself to do it anymore.
