Replayed on PC. A near-perfect follow-up to the first one, BMZ2 improves on virtually everything from BMZ1 and is one of the best 2D action platformer/metroidvania’s on the market. Pros: - General Gameplay - Excellent Pixel Art - OST - Level Variety - Exploration - Boss Variety Mixed: - Ending Section - Story - Character Designs Cons: - Optional objective back-tracking Overall, I had alot of fun replaying BMZ2 as it fixes all the issues of 1 besides the story and makes exploration pretty fun with areas that each of the main planets having unique gimmicks that distinguish them from one another. While I didn't enjoy the last section as much, in large part due to the story getting weird and the gameplay not being as fast-paced, it ends the game well enough. Definitely buy if you're a fan of 2D platformers with some satisfying exploration, fun bosses, and a great combat system that works in tandem with each other. 9.0/10.
Loved the first game, but they dropped the ball on this one. What could have been a great game, completely ruined by so many dumb design choices, especially as the game progresses. Tedious boss fights that require you sit through an annoying unskippable animation on every attempt. Tedious platforming bits with the most fiddly controls imaginable (which would be fine if it wasn't also asking you to do precision movements with it while a million things attack you in all directions and even a tiny fall is instant death). I had to play it in shorter and shorter bursts as I'd get past the thing that annoyed me last session, make a little progress, then face yet another extremely annoying thing that made me stop playing. None of it is even that hard, it just takes a few attempts, but it starts to waste so much of your time on each attempt. All the annoyances are completely unnecessary. Maybe in 20 years someone will remaster it and make it less annoying.
I haven't finished this game yet, but I'm having an absolute blast with this game. I feel like a lot of things are significantly improved from the first game and feels better to play. The counter mechanic seems to be a bit overpowered at firstbut I still think this game is harder than the first despite the counter mechanic because countering attacks on some enemies won't stun them and they can shoot at you and the enemies in this game can be relentless but once you understand their behaviours you can deal with them pretty easily. I've heard complaints about wall jumping being janky but I don't think that's true. The only thing I find janky in this game is when you have to jump from one ladder to another (when you're playing as Jason) and there's actually an (optional?) level that will require you to do this and I died a lot here. To be honest I am playing with an arcade stick so my opinion on what is "janky" may differ from most other players. The level design in this game feels a lot more refined from the first one too. I rarely got lost even without looking at the map because the game is really good at guiding you towards the next objective. For some this might make it feel linear so if you like being lost like in the first game this game might disappoint you a bit. If you like the first game, definitely give this one a try, it's basically a much better version than the first game IMO.
Blaster Master Zero 2
Jogo perfeito,jogo formoso,jogo maravilhoso
Having played the first one, I never thought it could get a sequel. Let alone one that goes this balls to the walls crazy with its premise and story. Gameplay is still the usual tank and on foot shooting that we come to know and love but with some new additions and enhancements. The newest addition is the planetary travel, taking us to mini challenges and to big and interesting planets to explore to find upgrades and such. And a story that goes above and beyond what anyone is expecting. Oh and a flowerpot head animegirl? Yeah game is weird too.
Very nice trilogy. 1 = Simple and fun, a bit too easy and uninteresting bosses. 2 = A Step up in all fronts. Good bosses, streamlined map and exploration. My favourite. 3 = Best bosses (The final ones are VERY challenging. The level design however gets too labyrinthian and confusing for my tastes. 2>3>1
Played more of this on my Switch (particularly the Metafight Chronicle version with voice acting) and I have to say - this is, in my opinion, the best Blaster Master game bar none. Even though I feel like Zero 3's got better combat, Zero 2 just feels amazing to play for me (leaps and bounds above any of the other Blaster Master games before it in terms of movement and combat) and the map design is fantastic. The only things that might be a turn-off are the difficulty (much more challenging than Zero 1 but still on the easier side and area maps still spoil the dungeon layouts) and the fact that the game uses a world map to travel between planets and planetoids instead of having interconnected areas like most of the other games (even then, the areas themselves have a ton of room for exploration).
