About
The second scripture in the Blasphemous series portends the return of The Penitent One, with a story that continues from the free Wounds of Eventide DLC for the original game, where The Heart in the sky heralded the return of The Miracle and foretold the birth of a new miracle child.
Awakened in a strange new land, and displaced from his final resting place, The Penitent One is thrust back into the endless cycle of life, death, and resurrection, with no other option than to explore this perilous new world and uncover its long-forgotten secrets.
Hordes of grotesque enemies stand in your way, awaiting final judgement by the brutal hand of the Penitent One, with titanic twisted bosses also lurking in the darkness, waiting for their chance to return you to the grave from whence you came.
Taking them down won’t be easy, but with Blasphemous 2 offering more chances to customise and improve your skill set, along with several new unique weapons to wield with righteous zeal and unending fury, victory might just be within grasp.
Ultimately, only one thing is certain… Penance Never Ends
Having awoken in a strange new land, your journey starts anew in a series of enchantingly grotesque landscapes, oozing Gothic charm and littered with unforgiving traps. How you tackle the labyrinthian world remains at your discretion, there is no wrong turn to be made, only scores to settle
The Penitent One shows no mercy, and with a series of new weapons offering new moves, brutal executions, and expanded combos, destruction will rain on any that stand in his way

Blasphemous 2 offers up new ways to play, with the ability to customise and improve your base skillset, alongside several new unique weapons to unleash devastating attacks on enemies

Hordes of monstrous foes stand between you and your goal; twisted bosses with unique attack patters and sundering abilities will put your skills to the test as you fight to stand triumphant when the dust settles

So, I definitely enjoyed playing through this game, and I can recommend it if you're a fan of metroidvania type games with dark gothic themes--but it's a disappointing Blasphemous game. I played this game for the first time once all DLC up to and including Third Sin had been released for it and collected all achievements. There are no spoilers in this review. The Pros: It's fun and easy to pick up and play, there's a choice of different playstyles through the three (now five with DLC) weapon types, and the altarpiece system which enables you to customise your build alongside the different prayers (spells) and rosaries. The landscape backgrounds are beautiful, the animation is crisp and smooth, and the music is excellent, atmospheric and memorable, esp. 'Corona de Siete Azahares'. There are a lot of clever puzzles which are satisfying to complete and a handful of really well-designed enemy encounters. It's also not all that difficult or punishing to play through if you're worried about that on the back of the first Blasphemous game. It's much more accessible both in terms of the combat and the transparency of its narrative (maybe with the exception of the Mea Culpa DLC). The Cons: The story, the characters, and the world building are just not very engaging or interesting this time around when compared with the first Blasphemous. You play as the same character as the first game, but they don't really seem to be part of the story as such this time, just an avatar for the player. The story itself is explained by an NPC at the start of the game and the bosses are shown in a still image, and it's straightforwardly explained what you're going to do. The bosses in question pale in comparison to those in the first Blasphemous, the encounters with them are forgettable (smaller, less visually distinct), and often quite easy. I received an achievement for beating a boss without taking any hits by accident. The new modern animation style for cutscenes is also quite generic and lacks the distinct character of that from the original--and seems a little incongruous with the feel of the game. The most interesting encounters or NPCs tend to be those which were originally intended for the first game, but couldn't make the cut. The Mea Culpa DLC tries to recapture some of the feel of the first game, but it lacks substance. tl;dr: It's a fun and well designed game, but it lacks what made Blasphemous so memorable as a title.
Vale a pena jogar Blasphemous 1+2 ?
