What a great game. It's a stellar example of a remake done right, it sticks to the formula of the original while inserting new, but fitting ideas into the game and gives it a modern coat of paint. Similar to the original Half-Life, it's very well paced, combat and puzzles are smooth and satisfying. The story and plot are very intriguing, while respecting the player's time. The visuals and setpieces are a treat to look at and explore and I didn't feel I got snagged anywhere for too long, it's quite good at telling you where to go. I've heard people say Xen is too stretched out but I really enjoyed the environment that clearly had a lot of love put into it, especially as a fan of speculative alien life. I love every side of the incident being shown in a humanizing light. The poor Black Mesa crew barely makes it out alive and are the only people in the facility who want to help you, so you're inclined to do likewise. The Marines either don't know the full extent of their mission or are genuinely enjoying the killing, but their desperation and pleas for help when retreating after the alien invasion invite some sympathy. Even the Vortiguants, who are shown to have a unique culture similar to ours in Xen, are shown to be just slaves to the Nihilanth.

У меня немного неправильное прохождение этой вселенной произошло, сначала я прошел HL2 , после первый, а позже 1 и 2 эпиpод HL2, и только сейчас прошел мезу, то есть та же 1 часть. Ну что могу сказать игра мне понравилась, графика стала приятнее, но баги.... боже как было так и осталось я видел все от летающей шляпы, до разрывающей на частицы коробки которая застряла в текстурах, постоянные вылеты на прогрузке некоторых локаций. Но все же это увлекательная игра, которая понравилась сюжетом, динамикой, миром и многим другим 7/10
Some guys decided to take one of the best games ever created and modernize it as a fan project - and they absolutely nailed it! I would really like to give the game a perfect score, but I have to subtract some points for the boring Interloper level in Xen (that was not in the original game). 9.5/10
