About
Birds Watching is a short psychological horror about bird watching.
An endless global fire destroyed the world, and you are now alone, the last human being.
You survive on the top of a mountain, the only place still untouched by the flames, and your only occupation is watching with your binoculars the wild birds escaped up there with you.
It is a peaceful, isolated, desperate life.
Until you are not alone anymore, and the only ones who can save you are the birds; but they are picky. Satisfy them, or lose everything. Be honest. Be ruthless. Be careful.
Birds are watching.
A short but impactful open-world horror experience (~60 minutes).
Go birding! Observe, catalog, and find every bird in the reserve.
Explore a handcrafted open world full of secrets and hidden locations.
Follow your animal companion.
Not only birds are present in the mountain.

Birds Watching is an.... Experience. Watching a play through really doesn't do it justice with how insane this game is. The story is very unique, with so much hidden and woven through environmental story telling along with the collectable notes. It's writing is also insane, and had me and my friends out from laughing for several minutes with some of the dialogue and the fact you could name the bird (I was very responsible with this power). Its a bit weak in the horror aspects of the game, with most of it being more psychological (I Guess), with your Bird Companions design being pretty creepy at first, and several encounters with the main monster of the game that ranged from easily missable and not very intimidating to genuinely really good. I would Advise the game for the experience alone. Have Fun Bird Watching!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is the first bird-type psychological horror game I've ever played. I was scared a couple times, but intrigued and ultimately, the story is more intense that it needs to be, but it's great to play through.
I had a great time running through this short game. There are definitely some bugs that need fixing, but for $5 I can accept that. I was more surprised by the plot than I expected to be! definitely will play for the other endings.
My score: 6/10 ⭐ TL;DR: An original and atmospheric little horror experience held back by rough edges, bugs, and a relatively mild horror component.
Overview
I'm no expert, so I have no idea how difficult it is to achieve something like this with Godot, but I have a feeling this game makes an impressive use of the engine. Credit where credit is due: the developer clearly knows what they're doing. The atmosphere is the real highlight. The idea of a safe haven in a world that has seemingly burned to ashes is conveyed through oppressive warm yellows, dark browns and a thick, hazy atmosphere that makes the air itself feel scorched and almost unbreathable. It's a distinctive setting, and the game does a good job of making it feel that way. There are some rough edges, though, including graphical issues, questionable collisions, and save/progression bugs. The horror component is also relatively mild and comes mostly through the written dialogue. Some of its themes are quite disturbing, and they can get under your skin if you allow yourself to immerse in the situation, but don't expect a particularly scary experience.
One Thing I Liked / One Thing I Didn’t
✔️ Liked: How quickly you can start a new game and experiment with different dialogue choices and endings. ✖️ Didn't: Some of the geometry is extremely basic, and graphical errors frequently break immersion and make the game look a little silly.
Key Points
[*]
DIFFICULTY:
There isn't really any. You explore the small map and find everything there is to find. [*]
PRESENTATION:
A genuinely original atmosphere, complemented (or held back?) by rudimentary geometry. The sound design deserves a special mention, though: the effects are spot-on, and the developer even lists every bird species and corresponding sound effect used in the game in the credits, following extensive research. [*]
STORY:
Narrative-driven, with most of the horror coming from the written dialogue. Thankfully, the story rarely interrupts the action for more than a few seconds, so you're free to keep exploring. [*]
GAMEPLAY/GAMEPLAY LOOP:
Essentially a walking sim with a touch of photography game mechanics: you use binoculars to spot birds and then interact with them. [*]
TECHNICAL POLISH:
I encountered some graphical and collision issues. More seriously, there's a nasty save/progression bug: after saving and quitting, I returned to find the story reset to the beginning while my collected items remained in my inventory, leaving me unable to progress because previously completed missions couldn't be repeated. [*]
MONEYxCONTENT VALUE:
It comes pretty close to my €1 = 1 hour rule: I got around 3.5 hours out of it for €5 (got all the achievements, a minimum of three playthroughs are required). If this kind of horror is your thing, I can recommend it; otherwise, I'd wait for a sale. Thankfully, it goes on sale quite frequently.
好喜欢,本来一周目地毯式收集线索了打算看看真结局之类的,被小鸟用嘴炮打败了,小鸟们TT。很喜欢的游戏氛围和叙述方式。
Don't go throwing around the CH word all willy-nilly... unless they're into that, I guess
