So What Sets Vigilantes Apart From Other Games?
I'm sure you've noticed that the vast majority of turn based games favour fantasy or sci-fi settings. How many turn based games have you played that don't feature aliens, orcs, mutants, wizards, or bandits as antagonists? With Vigilantes, we wanted to offer you something fresh: a modern, neon drenched, rainy city in the midst of an unprecedented crime wave, supported by hard-boiled prose that brings the setting to life. It's no country for sorcerers or laser guns, but brace yourself for psychotic mob hitmen, molotov wielding doomsday cultists, and paramilitary survivalist snipers!
You can't take down vast criminal organisations by getting into street fights with low level hoods. Surveillance operations can reveal basic information on the extent of a gang's presence in a city district, or how much wealth they are gaining from operations there. To put a gang out of commission, you must locate and eliminate their boss, and smash their facilities. To do this, you must fight your way up the gang hierarchy, using your skills and equipment, such as truth serum, to break them in interrogation.
When's the last time you saw an enemy attempt to flee in a turn based RPG? What happens if they escape, and come gunning for you down the line, more experienced and powerful than ever? When an enemy runs, will you give chase, or focus on active threats?
The gangs will not sit back and allow you to dismantle their operations. They will carry out criminal operations, using the ill gotten proceeds on recruitment, equipment, training, and building buff providing rackets. Success comes with its own risks in Vigilantes. Once you get a gang's attention, they will dispatch deadly lieutenants to ambush and track you down. You may very well set out as the hunter and find yourself the hunted.

It's definitely ambitious with its aspirations to mimic Xcom in the world of Vigilantes, but it suffers in comparison. The biggest issue being the enemy AI making the encounters trivial. Best example is a mafia assassin standing in one spot throughout the whole encounter and trying to shoot a cop miles away - always missing as a result. The combat in general is lacking as it feels just plain and flat. Besides being good at certain things from the start your team doesn't really have any special perks. When you finally unlock them majority of them are passive. Overwatch is just not enough for a tactical RPG to be interesting. I admire that most of your team suck at shooting at first, it's quite believable. Because of that you're force to engage in close combat more often then not. Granades also have a low range. As a counter point you gain levels super fast. The game is trying to throw a lot at you in your base with surveillance, med bay, workshop, world map, shop, skills, etc. Surveillance is particularly laughable as most of the time it's just clicking LMB enough times to reveal the enemy presence, crime rate and the district wealth. Interrogating enemies you catch is also just text. It would be great if some kind of minigames were introduced although same say everything being hassle free is good for mindless fun. There is something cool about a city being torn apart by 3 gangs and you forming a team of vigilantes to climb the ladder to their bosses, but it needs to be supported by an engaging gameplay.

It's cute, but very limited in scope. Combat follows old school Fallout style with skills, stats, and perks to back it up. The game play loop involves entering an area for an immediate combat, auto looting your enemies, then going back to base for inventory management, leveling up, and base building improvements. I like the fact that leveling up is based entirely upon skill gain and that different types of actions in battle raise or lower ally relationships. Ultimately, the combat is bare bones and the rest of the game even more so, thus it becomes quite repetitive particularly without a semblance of a coherent story, but it's a neat throwback.
TLDR : If you love Turn Based Tactical this one is a winner. Starts out feeling very basic but picks up speed fast. Many new weapons and fun skill/perk additions as you progress.
Sorry for no useful info, i just wanna give some small credit to the game i've had damn good time with

As with games like XCOM, this one suffers from the same RNG curse: you'll eventualy miss 4x in a row with 95% chance to hit. Then, again, in the next turn, 95% CTH, miss 4x in a row. It's more or less like a casino, with "bad luck" always turned on, where 95% = 5%, something like that.
This is an absolutely amazing turn-based RPG - really engaging! It’s a proper RPG with cool battles, not some “blah-blah” style game. A true hidden gem! And Music- super!!!
This is a five or ten dollar X-COM style game where you take out antifa members before they run away. Punisher wears red in this one. It's good but the writing and audio is a bit cheap due to one guy making it.
Basically everything this review said: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198001914453/recommended/545600/ It's got the *framework* of a good game but the AI is just incredibly dumb, and consequently the tactics are also just tedious and require nothing of the player. Then you do basically the same boring fight over and over again. Maybe something changes later and it gets more interesting, but the last straw for me was on the fifteenth identical no-effort fight the game also crashed. If it was the only game I had available I would play it more, but there's plenty of better games waiting to be played; this one doesn't merit my time, or yours. Any of the XComs (including the ancient ones) does it better, and if you've already played all of those to death, it would still make more sense to play one of them again than to play this. (Or, play "I Am Not A Monster: First Contact" which is truly great.) Oh yeah, also the UI is not great, it uses both mouse buttons in a not-intuitive way with note visual indication of what each button will do, and when you do a "shoot" action there's a painfully slow animation that's often playing off-screen so you can barely tell that your click even did anything, before finally a shot is fired which, if it's a miss, may *also* not even appear on screen. The long forced delay between actions gets really painful when the game is already so repetitive.
