Alright. BioEntity is a very honest platformer that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. But it does approach its difficulty in a few different ways. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3452810949 There are your typical traps. In this instance, it takes the form of dripping goo, centipedes, water hazards, and so on. Which is pretty traditional stuff. However, it does something that I don't particularly enjoy. Which is that it really, really, really focuses on control sensitivity. And by that, what I mean is that the control sensitivity is jacked up to the point where having some measure of real control is actually the game's greatest challenge. It's not pinpoint, tight controls like you'd expect. Actually, it's pretty much the opposite. Even the slightest nudge can send you flying across a section of the map completely out of control. It IS possible to not do that, but the more that is going on, on screen, the less control you are guaranteed to have. What I did like is that your sprite sticks to surfaces and that is an important aspect of the game. Which does add an element of coolness to the gameplay. Graphically, this has a very nice arcade-y look to it and is actually quite nice to look at. Similarly, the tunes are pleasant enough. It definitely looks and sounds the part. Thematically, you are some BioEntity, as suggested by the title. And adapting is part of the game. You will find things that allow your entity to grow, to change color and so on. Which factor into the level design and the challenges within. I do note that in order to begin the game, you have to create a save file. However, the game wouldn't initially allow me to do that. I had to exit and restart the game, and then all of a sudden, the save file I had been trying to create did appear and I was able to jump in. This game has been purchase disabled on Steam, so if you don't already own it or have a license sitting in your curator connect (assuming that's available to you), then the odds are against you being able to play the game. But for my part, I can understand why the developer would want to delist the game. I know s/he was closing down their studio, but also, I don't think this game was ever really going to be popular outside of a very niche group of gamers who love the toughest of platformer challenges, and both the achievement percentages for this game as well as the one-person all-time peak player count supports this assessment. It is perfectly functional, but some of that functionality is gonna feel pretty flawed for the average gamer. Anyway, I just wanted to get a quick look at the game, which I've now done. And since each level takes an average of like 15-30 seconds to complete, you actually can see a decent amount of game in a short time. I'm sure the developer wanted the controls to be loose like they are, and I can see how this game would appeal to the aforementioned super niche audience, so I'm gonna give it a positive rating. Not that the review really matters in this instance since the game can't be purchased any longer, but it can still exist for historical context.
