This point&click adventure is extremely hard in terms of brain puzzles, probably the hardest one I ever played. When I say hard, I mean like reading 15 pages of notes to decipher the riddle, figure out the color for like 25 ingredients, then mix the colors in your mind to label several jars. I have seen this type of puzzle before, but it was maybe 5 times smaller in terms of variables, plus there are other puzzles of similar difficulty. That is assuming that you have the patience to read the walls of text over and over, although I like the art and the writing behind them. I am not necessarily saying it's a bad thing to have a challenging puzzle, but I don’t want them to be so hard that I have to deduct the solution on paper. Unless you don't mind using a walkthrough (which I do cuz I am stubborn), be prepared for some head scratching... It could use a skip option. Beyond the Sky so far strikes me as a very unique and unorthodox adventure game. Let me explain. You know how in traditional adventure games you have tools like inspect, observe, interact and talk? Well, here your character has to learn those basic things from another character, which is unique, I'll give it that. It adds an interesting dynamic to the game where you have to consider your new abilities. Perhaps you came across a character, but you did not have the ability to talk, so you will need to return to that character when you obtain that ability. Personally, I really enjoy its narrative, a lot of philosophical views and complex undertones. The game uses its soundtrack really well, I was instantly immersed in the game from the title screen. Not only it has a good atmosphere, but the story is also very creative, maybe too creative (<.<)...
Pros:
+ good atmosphere / very nice soundtrack + very creative narrative, if you like philosophical views + very unique concept (uncovering basic senses) + charming art style, in my opinion + achievements
Cons:
- a few very hard puzzles (a lot of reading and deducting) - somewhat cryptic Initial Impression: I was hoping to beat this game for this review, but after staring at these jars and notes for 40 minutes my brain is fried (and that is after a 25-minute chess puzzle). Personally, I think this game is enjoyable, but I suspect that not everyone will be so kind. It's a very weird game as far as adventure games go, perhaps too unique for its own good. This one might be for the diehards of the genre.
Review By: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/31294838-Hidden-Gem-Discovery/
More interesting reviews on our Fenol Baron Approves Curator Page I fell in love with Beyond the Sky literally in the first few minutes of the game. With all that I was somewhat wary of the appearance of the main character in the screenshots, the original graphics, but when the game started, it all became clear and correct at once. Wonderful and skillful presentation of the material, a very correct approach to the presentation of the "dark" fairy tale / The last time the fairy tale so fascinated me in "King's Quest" Chapter 1, it is very noticeable that the developers are guided by the old-school style of plotting the fairy tale, by playing around in the new fashionable trends. The adventures of the girl Selena, who was tricked into the forest by the Wolf, are filled with some kind of strange and alluring philosophy, covered with darkness, like the farthest thickets of this forest, but at the same time some kindly, naive and proper cleanliness comes through. And this strange combination gives the player a very unusual gaming experience, forcing him to really rejoice and worry about the characters, to be surprised at ordinary things and calmly meet oddities, constantly making some amazing discoveries in the game world. The developers right in the description of the game directly talk about the "most difficult" puzzles. Very often, such things are written only for formality, but here in these words there is not a drop of guile. The puzzles here are really incredibly hardcore, so patience, a pen and dozens of written pages of a notebook are the minimum thing you need. The complexity of the puzzles is simply amazing, there are not so many of them, but they are huge. And with their super-complexity and large sizes, they are intelligent and incredibly logical to fit into action, without destroying the feeling of a fairy tale. However, you will suffer on them. Beyond the Sky does everything somehow so naturally and easily that it causes amazement. The game is smart in itself, it easily allows itself to send the player to the classical literary works of ancient Greece, myths, and then, effortlessly makes references to modern cinematic things. A tight lump woven from the thread of Ariadne and Arahna's cobwebs, vines, blossoming from just one word, the whispers of ghosts consisting of cold fire, and the main dream of the Moon, which shines even more brightly and in a dark forest. Gorgeous clever thing.
Suddenly the eager adventure player noticed an unusual game which immediately aroused his interest. Stylistically, Beyond the Sky has some similarities to another excellent game, The Edgelands. It's a journey through a strange reality, narrated in the third person, and the game does a great job at creating the right atmosphere. The stylized graphics are quite expressive, using different angles, close-ups and skip-frame animations. There are elements of different styles: sometimes a more pastel look, sometimes a more computer-generated look. There are some subtly amusing details as well (the illustrations to the myths). The background music and sound are also very expressive. The game has inventory items and interactions with NPCs, but the emphasis is on logic puzzles. The puzzles are large and elaborate, but not very difficult. Figuring out what needs to be done and actually carrying out the task are equally enjoyable. All the necessary information is given in the in-game journal. There's no need to write anything down, as the journal can be opened at almost any moment and is interactive; at one point you'll have three separate journal windows open for cross-referencing and will be filling in the solution in the fourth window. The puzzles can be interconnected in non-obvious ways: for instance, you're given a set of items to work with, and then you might notice that something is missing. All this makes Beyond the Sky quite special.
BRAVO! Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I just finished it and started to tear up at the end. The story, art, music and puzzles work marvelously together. I am so impressed by how well thought out the entire game was. The puzzles were logical and challenging. I loved that I had to write things down with a pen and paper and really use my brain! Thank you for this breath of fresh air, please make more games like this!!!
Whoever decided to put a giant blinking circle on a dark adventure game needs to reassess their career choices. It can't be turned off. It can't be made to hide until a key is pressed or the mouse moves to the top right corner. IT. JUST. BLINKS. UNTIL. YOU. GIVE. IT. ATTENTION. It's like a flashlight in a dark room Sorry, but I'd rather play a game that lets me focus on the scene and the story and exploration instead of one trying to distract me from the scene over and over and over again
To sum it up our protagonist Selene is on a mission to the moon. The moon tells Selene to avoid a wolf but does not explain to her what a wolf is so poor dense Selene immediately makes mistakes. Selene walks slow as hell. She is not in a hurry to fulfill her dreams that is for sure. I liked this game, but these puzzles were harder than sin. If you are up for a challenge, or love walkthroughs this is the perfect point and click for you. Unlike others in the genre just clicking randomly will not grant you a win. The art style is pretty cute. Selene has eyelashes for days, color me jealous. Do not make the mistake I did and make sure you learn how to sing to plants early on from the old lady because I totally missed that achievement and I am debating weather or not I want to retry with Selene's slow attitude. Lastly, Selene needs the fear of God put into her that wolf was right she straight up rides a griffin side saddle up in the air, girl, there is fearless and there is foolish.
A very underrated game and I'm surprised it's not more popular. The story is cheesy at times, but it's still captivating. The puzzles are unique, although sometimes so much so you are lost, and one will even take about 30 minutes to complete. The visual style is also charming. It's a great game to spend about five hours with if you're a fan of the genre. You'll need to play it twice to get all achievements, though.
Point and click puzzle game in a fairy tale and mythological setting. Looks like it would be a simple story with inventory puzzles, but is actually full of satisfying logic puzzles that require just the right amount of thought to be rewarding. You get an extensive set of notes in the game that keep track of the details you need to solve each puzzle. The artwork is lovely and colorful. I did need a walkthrough a few times for some of the puzzles but overall solving them was quite satisfying. Each puzzle is quite different so you won't get bored solving the same thing over and over. I'd recommend it to any point and click fan.
- Ja, was will man mehr...
