Listen, I don't care what anyone says. I actually did like this game. I'm a horror fan, and although it was nothing over the top, it is a good, short, indie horror game. Nothing super creepy, and usually I can about predict the jump scares, but it did get me several times. I also played it with headphones and a little loud just for the full effect. Some decent little puzzles. Again, nothing over the top, but it's a CHEAP horror game.
Beside Myself is a first project horror game using Unreal stock assets. And it shows. I liked the setting and what the dev was trying to create, but sadly enough most scares fell flat due to how silly they looked. You really can't get far with these assets. That said, it was a complete package. A bit of a story, looking for usable items, fixing fuses, taking photo's to progress and a good amount of supposed to be jump scares. Only a few hit me, but I certainly had some laughs, so I was sort of entertained. Seen better first projects, seen worse. Enough to give this dev's other games a try, even though their reviews are also pretty mixed.
After playing it, I think it will remain my favorite horror game, it has so many jumpscares, jump out of your chair 😂😂, high-quality graphics, you have to be good at heart to be able to play this game. lol 10/10 ❤️ 💛 💚 💙 💜 ❤️
A walking Simulator in an abandoned hospital that every minute has a jump scare, the most I have ever encountered in a indie horror game. This journalist got more than he could handle. NEVER go to a haunted hospital alone under any circumstance, lol. These spooks got me many times. I enjoyed the eerie and dark nature of the atmosphere as well as the tense sounds. Enjoyable game, see my playthrough here: https://youtu.be/s31cf5zMK6I
Beside Myself is one of those indie horror games that I did enjoy while playing, but it doesn’t really stand out among the dozens of horror games I’ve experienced. It’s solid — just not especially memorable. You find yourself in an abandoned mental hospital, slowly uncovering what happened in the past through exploration and flashbacks. And while that setup isn’t bad by any means, it is a premise we’ve seen quite a few times in the horror genre. That said, the game does what it sets out to do. The atmosphere is creepy, the environments are unsettling, and there are multiple jump scares that absolutely had my heart rate spiking. It ran well, and the scares were effective in the moment. Overall, Beside Myself is a good game. I’m not saying it isn’t. I enjoyed my time with it, and it definitely delivered some solid scares. It just wasn’t one of those games that sticks with you long after you finish — not a “remember when I played this” kind of experience. If you’re a horror fan looking for something familiar and entertaining to pass the time, it’s worth checking out — just don’t expect it to reinvent the genre.
this was a fun little game, nothing too elaborate, but even then i had to look up tips every now and then. the jumpscares were paced out well enough not to get boring and i really liked the soundscape! gameplay is linear, so no need to be afraid of getting lost.
It's not good.
I am going to give this game a positive review, because I can tell there was a lot of work by the dev team and attempt here. However, the scares were not scary and the game just felt like a walking sim. Achievements were easy to get in the game and can be done in one run through. I made a play through over on my Youtube channel for anyone interested in watching a no commentary play through. As always, every gamer plays differently. Please consider supporting the dev's and purchasing the game. https://youtu.be/vWwAiXaIM04
