This game was ok. Its a passable entry in this franchise but it doesn't quite live up to the original. My main issue is with the moment to moment gameplay. It relies heavily on combat and jump scares. This is a problem as the combat is clunky and the jump scares feel cheep. For the combat, there are enemies constantly walking around. This is in contrast to the first game where it was rare to have enemy encounters. You are expected to either sneak around constantly or try fighting them head on. Once one sees you, you will get swarmed. It is simply impossible to swing your weapon fast enough to fight them all. The jump scares are constant and get really old, really quick. The butcher gang is back but they serve as random pointless jump scares that you can't defeat and nothing else. There is now a new member that can appear seemingly out of nowhere and instantly disappear. Then the ink demon encounters just serve as a way to disrupt the natural flow of the game. The first few times this happens you will be really on edge. But the 12th or the 30th time it happens, it just feels annoying. The issue is there are a few scripted encounters but there are also random ones that happen around every five minutes. You have to hide when the prompt comes up on screen or he will spawn behind you and instantly kill you. None of these jump scares serve to make you feel scared as much as just raising your blood pressure while trying to explore. I would highly recommend installing the "Smooth Bendy 2" mod. This allows you to turn off the butcher gang and the ink demon except the scripted parts. It also allows you to choose whether the mobs are hostile or not. This turns it back into the horror/adventure game we all remember back in the first game.
