Beat Boxers is the world's first Rhythm-Fighting Game. In order to win, players have to attack to the beat of the music. The closer you hit to the beat, the stronger your attacks. Keep up the rhythm and outplay your opponent!

There are little no no graphics settings which barely affect how the game runs, you can't even change the aspect ratio / display size which is pretty poor. There is only one song track in the game, I haven't tried uploading my own songs though. It took me forever to start a match as I ended up having to press random keys and click on random things to get it to select options. I also find the lack of key binding changes annoying as the default controls feel weird to me. The game feels very unresponsive which is detrimental to a fighting game. Also from the match I did play against the CPU, rift seems to just be more powerful than the other character, I do think fighting games can work with a very small roster but they have to be balanced. It's a very cool concept, a combination of my two favourite genres but it's essentially glorified rock, paper, scissors with poor execution, even if this was in alpha that shouldn't excuse the lack of settings controls and poor optimisation. I will be following the game however as I really do want to see this idea work. 2/10 - Good ideas but awful execution and in desperate need for basic features like settings

Fun concept but lacking in content. There's only two fighters to chose from and the composer that allows you add your own music doesn't work for me. That being said, this game is free and somewhat fun to play. All in all, relatively inoffensive.
The difficulty is botched. I can't seem to get a single hit on the AI even when I'm on point. Can there be a difficulty setting as well as a control figuration setting?
This is an amazing concept and it was pretty fun to play for a little bit, but it needs to be worked on quite a lot. Add characters, maps, tracks, and an online feature, and this game could go somewhere!
"Beat Boxers" is a student project from the Latter Day Saints at Brigham Young in Utah. It's a hybrid rhythm game and fighter/versus... one genre I really don't like and another I'm ambivalent about. I definitely have an issue when developers decide, "Hey, here's a perfectly fine game format, let's make it better by shoving Dance Dance Revolution into it!" And this never, ever, ever makes anything better. It just makes things worse. True here. And it's not even a good rhythm/QTE game... sloppy timing and bad general assembly undo the effort put into decent game assets and animations. Well, it's an animation school first and foremost, so you would hope they get that right. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
The Game runs even when i exit the game. I also feel like the controls are clunky on PC.
