Batman: Arkham City - Game of the Year Edition

One of the best Arkham games I have ever played. Recommended to everyone.

great experience for its big map , better than asylum

After playing Arkham Asylum for the first time, I decided to immediately hop into this game. I was not disappointed even a little bit. Although, contrary to most people's opinions, I did like the first game a little more. This game just did not make me FEEL the same way Arkham Asylum did. I don't know if I have just grown tired of the free-roam genre due to it's overabundance in today's industry, but it felt a little bland at times in this game. Another criticism I have are the collectibles. In Asylum, you came across a riddler trophy or something and went "Ooh!". In this game, the number of trophies have doubled and they are EVERYWHERE. Though, perhaps, that is not a proper criticism and just a personal pet peeve of mine. I just like it when the collectibles feel like collectibles. The combat in this game is a tremendous upgrade from the previous one. It feels a lot smoother and far less clunky. The developers did a great job at upgrading and improving upon the movement system (likely due to the inclusion of proper free-roam). The story of this game is certainly an upgrade from the first, albeit minor. I liked the twist at the end, it was unpredictable and shocking; and the amount of foreshadowing leading up to it was mind-shattering. It was truly under our noses the entire time. I liked the inclusion of Catwoman in the main story. I thought that switching between both Batman and her would have felt unnatural, but the developers handled it pretty seamlessly. All-in-all, I can see why this game has garnered a reputation as the best in the series. For me, however, I still prefer the first game, as in that one you FELT like you were Batman and inside a comic book (perhaps because of the linearity). I would personally give this game a 8.35/10.

What a great game. I basically bee-lined my way through the story while doing a couple side quests here and there. This is a really fun game and still holds up really well in todays gaming landscape. If you haven't played Arkham Asylum yet, start there. It will make this game a lot more fun, and the story will hit you harder.
