If Gmod zs were a standalone game this would be the closest thing you could get to it atm. Vendomachine is something you have to defend much like sigils in zs also you can buy weapons tho it's more like the gunbox from cod. Weapon maxxer is the weapon remantler, and the prop teleporter you buy props from is the prop transponder. Barricading is pretty much the exact same in this game as is it is on ZS Crawlers are headcrabs, it has standard zombies and what would be probably be equivalent to a puke pus on modern zs. Hopefully more updates add more zombie types akin to zs as well, (wraiths, skeletons etc.) Waves 11+ can get hectic if you aren't prepared. Also good for barricaders who want to learn and not get yelled at on actual zs :^)
This is fantastic game, it's simple yet perfect. Would be godlike if there was multiplayer. Looking forward to future updates!
Really good game if you like wave based defence games. It's basically got a mix of Half life elements like the 90's graphics and the health station, and also a bit of COD Zombies with building barricades and the weapon upgrade system. And there is different enemy types that challenge how you build your barricades and defend yourself. The aim of the game is to defend a vending machine (Sort of like a mystery box like zombies) from different enemies, such as head crabs, zombies and floating ranged zeds... If you lose the machine or you die the game is over. I actually got to speak with the developer of the game and provide feedback on the game, and I've even made some YouTube Videos to help promote the game further, Keep in mind the developer behind the game is only one person. Overall it's a solid game, I've been playing since the beta and overtime I have definitely seen it come a long way in terms of game mechanics and features. Again, if your a fan of COD Zombies or wave based shooters then this will be a good game for you!
I'm definitely going to buy this again when co-op is added.
i've only played this game for 23 minutes at the time of this review and i can tell you it is very well worth the price, think of a half life styled game mixed with a bit of cod zombies and add the ability to build your own barricades and that is what this game is i think this game would go so well with a co op mode and steam workshop
CoD: Zombies, but with a Retro Aesthetic
I quickly take advantage of the lull in zombies to assess my defenses. I repair what I can, and grab various items nearby to fix the holes in my barricades. Seeing my ammo is low, I quickly restock at the nearby vending machine. The timer hits 0, and I realize I've now gotta hope my defenses hold and my aim is true... Barricade is an FPS that puts a bit of a spin on the Call of Duty Zombies formula. While the staples of CoD: Zombies are here (waves of zombies, vending machine with random guns), Barricade involves making, well, barricades to slow the zombies from reaching your vending machine. While you have your own health to worry about, the zombies are primarily interested in destroying your vending machine. Running out of health, or having your vending machine get destroyed, are lose conditions. While, as of this review, I've only attempted one run and the tutorial, I can honestly say Barricade is a blast to play. The shooting is very much in the style of boomer shooters, with less focus on precision aiming and more on just shooting enemies with bigger and badder weapons over time. The barricade mechanic provides an interesting wrench in the machine as you need to make sure there's always something between the zombie horde and your vending machine at any given time. While early waves could likely be tanked with enough ammo, you're likely to fail quickly if you don't tend to making a solid barricade to hold the horde back. My thoughts: Pros: Smooth gameplay: The game runs smooth, as a boomer shooter should. The movement is fluid, the guns are great, and everything works together well. You also don't have to worry about the various physics objects getting in your way as the game provides you with a "phasing" button that lets you walk through any various barricade objects. Lots of challenge: While I rarely felt at danger of dying, as the zombies weren't terribly interested in me, the real challenge comes from managing the various types of zombies in greater numbers as time goes on. The sheer numbers and types can quickly overwhelm you if you aren't keeping on top of your defenses. Cons: Replayability may be limited: This is really dependent on you as a player. If you're the kind of person who had fun with just trying out different ways of holding off zombies in CoD: Zombies, you'll likely have plenty of fun with this and get plenty of playtime. But otherwise there isn't anything like meta progression or the like that might be able to hold your attention. I honestly think I could get a decent amount of playtime out of this, but your mileage may vary. This leads into... Cost: The game is $10 USD normally, $9 for the intro sale. Again, this may depend on your views, but this may be a bit costly for this type of game. I think the cost is more than fair given the amount of content, but your thoughts may vary. Overall I'd say this is a solid title and deserves a try. It's a ton of fun and I think most zombie shooter fans would enjoy it!
Essentially, the mechanics of this game are a love letter to the Zombie Survival gamemode from Garry's Mod but reimagined as a single-player tower defense game. There aren't many games out there that allow you to grab just about any prop you see and use it to fortify your base Romero style, so discovering this game was a pleasant surprise. You can rotate and place these props in strategic positions to get the most out of them in waves. There's definitely some CoD inspiration as well, considering there's a vending machine that works like a mystery box and a weapon upgrade machine. It'd be awesome to see more weapons implemented in future updates, perhaps some rare ones being the equivalent of a Wonder Weapon. I also really like the added utilities to weapons that get their first upgrade, and perhaps it'd be really cool to see the tool gun get the same treatment as these other guns. As of this review, there are currently three maps (those being Drainage Junction, August Apartments, and, my favorite, the Old Warehouse). The maps are relatively small, and given the format of the map list, there's a chance we could possibly be seeing future maps from this developer. Props in these maps are very plentiful. Yet, in later waves, monsters will chew through these barricades faster than you can set them up, regardless of how you strategically ration out your defenses. The fact that enemies come from multiple locations, some of which you will not be able to defend in time, is an inevitable fate. The current solution to this issue is a prop spawner, which creates one random prop for $500. This, however, leads to a different issue concerning the earn-to-spend ratio per wave. Given how expensive it is to purchase props and how often you'll need to replace them, there isn't much room for weapon upgrades. Some ideas to balance out this issue: 1. The price for the prop spawner could be halved to $250. 2. The player could earn more money for killing enemies/repairing barricades. 3. The game could give players the opportunity to purchase and set down traps or turrets to help reduce the potential casualties of props. Overall, Barricade is a quality game for its price and has a lot of ambitious ideas. The developer is super transparent in his update logs, and the game itself absolutely deserves way more attention than it currently has. As for one last bit of wishful thinking on my part, I'd love to be able to play this game with friends, though I do understand multiplayer is a very difficult feature to implement.
I am a master of nailing props now! Remember to repair props in the early phases to gain bank to upgrade weapons. Never surrender and you will eventually survive wave 20!
I would recommend trying the game, its a lot of fun. the gun upgrades feel really nice and the props and level design fit the feel and theme really nicely, more time between rounds would be nice, even if its only 5-10 more seconds. More game modes would be cool as well. but for how it is, i would say its definitely worth at least trying the demo, you might be surprised how fun it can be to play and also math out as you play what you will spend your cash on and where you will put up barricades to hold or defend entry ways, or just nail everything into the starter room.
