scared me for life 10/10 would play again
This is a horror game. It is cute at times but it is mostly horror. It is brutal and does not hold back. Even with the buggy interactions on some objects, the game is good and does what it set out to do. You get to be a defenseless puppy... and God that puppy just needs a hug.
Good game, mainly for dog lovers, but I can see its not for everyone though. Its hard to explain, since its dog with anxiety the game, but I am gonna try my best. Its very short, which should still not discourage you from trying this out. Mechanics feel nice, you do sometimes get immersed and feel like you are in the skin of dog with anxiety. Chases/hiding sequences are sometimes hit or miss. Some lasting a bit too long for my taste and the hiding is clunky in few places.
Nightmare scenes are honestly very good. They bring dread which you do feel throughout the entire time and probably only one of them was annoying to deal with.
When it comes to environment and exploration, its okay-ish? Most of the time you do spend in the house and around it. Lots of collectibles in form of snacks for the good boy, scare some cats and all the dog shenanigans.
Eventually when you get outside, its pretty good. Until you get lost. Very lost. Exploring the neighborhood felt a bit too empty, which sure, night, but I dont know. Maybe I was just expecting too much so my fault really. But boy, you sure get lost easily. Finding the objectives (mainly the water) was just abysmal experience.
For story, you are literally playing dog with anxiety. What do you expect. Its very sad. Made me actually tear up towards the end, while feeling bad the entire time. When it comes to sounds they are okay-ish. Not much else to say on that. Music is very nice though. I really, REALLY like it. Particularly, the end of the level music. That one is still stuck in my head to this day. Overall, good indie game. Approved.
I had a lot of fun playing this game. It definitely is NOT an easy game by any means..but once I understood the mechanics, I had a blast. I really liked the commentary on real life dogs and strays (via the radio). If you're looking for a feel-good game, this is not it lol it's dark and often sad...but that is what gave me the fight to escape the owner! I highly recommend this one. https://youtu.be/VHFs2XOmlBs?si=w0UMtNr7ZElqH_Qc
I actually changed my mind with this game. I had fun with it, the developer was very responsive and i eventually went back to the game and it didn't have any issues this time with the missions. This game is hard! This genre of horror should be tapped into more!
Very fun, im a simple dog, i do dog stuff.
easy to softlock. will entertain you 10mins. never saw the open world.
Overall this game gets 5/5stars from me. I really enjoyed the concept. The game play itself is quite fun, however it is quite frustrating to learn. v POTENTIALLY SPOILERS/TIPS v vvvv Vvvvv Vvvvvv Vvvvv Vvvv A couple hints for new players that worked for me. -Sometimes hiding isn't the best strategy. -When you are hallucinating DONT hide, instead keep tabs on the owner and avoid him. -Dont overuse you sense when the owner is inside. Instead use little bursts. - if you get frustrated at the end from getting lost; try following the outer perimeter of the map. - don't move when he stops moving, unless you want to endlessly dance with him. To the developer. Thank you for this gem of a game first of all. Some notes. -"FREAKY FAST FRIDAY" - I can't seem to get the owners attention after the dog hops the fence -Treats at the end are not very fun to find. They are very difficult to spot for such a larger area. (It might not seem as bad if you already know where they are) trust me, I've spent hours in this chapter trying to find them and still have not got them all. - also 'potentially' too many marked territories in the final chapter. I haven't dedicated a massive amount of time to this yet but I have tried hitting every one I could find will looking for treats and I still have not got them all evidently. Edit: The marked territory is fine. There was however ONE treat that cost me hours trying to find because it was not placed similarly to where all the other treats were found. That being said; I wouldnt change how many or how they are place. Once i learned the layout of the map it was much easier to search for. Perhaps add something in Aura-Sense to act as some sort of a hint to their locations if at all possible. without making it too easy. Dogs can smell, but evidently this dog cant smell treats very well. -Still having trouble with "freaky fast friday" -trashketball items clip through floor eventually making it near unplayable because it wont spawn enough new items. Still 5/5 stars i love this gave, home-run first steam game. Hope to see more developer support for this game. And i am looking forward to any new games such as this in the future.
Ok this game is hard. Like, really hard. At least to a casual gamer like me who doesn't play games featuring stealth as a core mechanic. IKIK get gud, yadda yadda yadda. There's a huge trigger warning for this game: if you are the type of gamer that can't handle animal abuse, or the type of gamer that gets upset when children are harmed in video games, don't play this game. While done off screen, abuse is heavily implied leading to death on a game over. It's gut wrenching. I'm a huge horror game fan, especially psychological horror. I have to say, I haven't been this unnerved since Omori. I'm serious. Playing this game gets me super emotional, which is the point. I just want to see this pup thrive SO BAD. I watched the IGP playthrough which made me want to buy the game, even knowing the ending. It's so terrifying in an actual sense of real danger and not just jumpscares alone. It's incredibly effective on what it set out to do. 10/10 story, easily, and a conversation about animal abuse that I really thinks needs to be more present. Knowing this pup is based on the dev's own dog's anxiety, makes it all the more a visceral experience. My only criticism of the game is, as I stated before, the difficulty. It seems the dev assumes everyone is good at games. For those of us whose core games are cozy games and interactive movies like the Dark Pictures Anthology, it would be nice if there was something akin to a story mode or at least accessibility options to make scenes a little easier like Dark Pictures Anthology does. Not all horror game fans are hardcore gamers. Some of us are filthy casuals, and there's nothing wrong with that. And some us lack the coordination for games this difficult due to disability. I really hope the dev takes this into consideration, and it's worth being said. If Supermassive can accommodate, anyone can. A big help would be decreasing the cooldown time of sense, if nothing else, for the "find somewhere to hide" scenes as those are especially difficult. This game reeks of Dark Souls "git good scrub" attitude from the dev I've seen based the comments he's made to negative reviews criticizing the frustrating gameplay where you have to reply small sections over and over and over to not die in an RNG sequence and isn't exactly encouraging for anyone who has a distaste in that style of game. This isn't Dark Souls action based gameplay, it's supposed to freak you out. I don't understand the desire for tedium by the dev. With all this said, I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who loves psychological horror. It truly does what it sets out to do. 15/10 one of the scariest games I've ever played. Sure there are bugs, but the dev is very involved in the community from what I've seen and is patching them when they're reported, so I honestly don't mind that as much.
