About
Babel of Ystilia combines tactical, turn-based gameplay of traditional roguelikes with fast-paced, minimalistic and intuitive combat where your movement and turn timings are the key to getting out of fights unscathed. Learn enemy patterns to outsmart them, loot equipment to create powerful synergies and slay the god to save the world of Ystilia from divine lunacy.
Every enemy has a predictable behavior that feels like a micro puzzle. Learn their patterns and you will always be able to beat them with any weapon and without taking any damage.

This game is completely turn-based, but it can feel quite fast due to the minimalistic nature of the combat system and the absence of turn delays. Speed up in simple rooms and slow down when you are surrounded by a crowd of enemies to carefully think about your plan.

Your inventory is limited so make the most of it because every item matters. Become a thunder warlock, chicken summoner, ballista engineer or a poisonous assassin. Play however you want and try out new item combinations every run!

No reviews? This is a pretty good classic roguelike. I just wish there was a way to see what items do before buying them.
nobody reads positive reviews so I can say whatever I want: uhhh, poo?
good fun! difficult but rewarding!
Fun mechanics for patient players. May prove a little infuriating for players who struggle to reprogram their mind to 'slow down' and actually think about their actions. For people who can stop and actually really think through the next move, there's a ton of fun to be had here, just with the notable drawback the game length is just way way too short. People will throw the roguelike term at this one I'm quite sure, since people seem to call everything a 'roguelike' these days, but I'd really hesitate to use that label. To me at least the builds, exploration and itemization are far too limited for me to be comfortable with the roguelike descriptor, and in terms of format I would say it really plays somewhere closer to a tile-based platformer arcade game, a lot more about your skill from turn to turn and remembering telegraphed enemy movements / attacks than learning a bunch about hidden items, diverse builds/skills and complex scrolls, wands and consumables across many runs. It's hardly a game where 100 runs will be 100 vastly different experiences, although it does have a procedurally generated dungeon where said ruins will at least not be totally identical. If you are looking for a game with many of the same game play themes as this but a whole lot more meat on the bone in terms of a bona fide roguelike experience, I'd highly recommend checking out "Lost Flame", but I stress this game is solid enough to pick up on its own merits, it just scratches less of a roguelike itch and more of a grid + turn based puzzle game of sorts. It's a good little time sink for 5-10 hours but not 50-100 hours.
Quite a fun tactical traditional roguelike. Very charming graphics, and very tight challenges. Feels exceptionally brutal at first, but once you internalize some of the enemy move sets, each combat encounter becomes a nice puzzle to unwind. Plays great on the steam deck!
