VIDEO REVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKkyLq8_dzc STAY AWAY.. For context, I have over 5k hours in VR, I have perma-deathed VR games, and have developed a palette over 3 years for the best of the best types of experimental or early access VR games. I have made many video reviews on VR games and have participated in tons of Alpha/Beta testing for well known VR gaming companies. I also have a few hours in development of VR games in Unity and Unreal. I really wanted to like this if it worked, but it is an actual dumpster fire of a game. The dev that made it should seriously feel ashamed that they managed to squeeze 2 of these games onto the Steam store. I do not care if it is in "Early Access" this is unplayable to the highest degree. No quest 2 support for controls so it's constantly just a mess to figure out what to press and by then you have already killed yourself. Constant, constant drunk camera shaking inside the Quest 2 that isn't shown on the screen, even on the lowest possible settings. It makes everything so unplayable to the point of making people sick. I even gave it a chance after there was a MASSIVE 25g update that only installed after it completely crashed the 3rd or 4th time and it fixed absolutely nothing. Extremely disappointed in this. An hour in and it was so bad I made it maybe 10 feet from the boat. TLDR: NO, JUST NO. UPDATE: after a month the dev said they "fixed things" when that was false. Nothing is fixed, nothing is working correctly. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. . UPDATED REVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62zTMHE5WZ8&t=149s
B.o.W II VR is an Early Access paid VR game that is a ocean diving simulator. It worked on my Index system with RTX 2070 super, looked ok, sounded ok, played ok. The store page said the minimum required GPU is a RTX 2070. By default the setting are too high for my computer, i was getting serious motion lag when moving my head around. Found the graphics setting, lowered all the graphics to low, it improved but decrease the look too. Has 16 steam achievements. - Update 10 July 2024 built a new gaming computer with RTX 4070 TI Super and Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Looks very much better at default. Maybe buy this, if you like skin diving or scuba diving. Might need a cutting edge computer to run this at a good resolution. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/MaNb3OoV95g I want to like this game. This is actually one of the better underwater experiences in VR ... if you can overlook the negatives. The graphics look good. The premise is exciting. This game has loads of potential. Of course, we've heard all that before in VR. The problem is the execution. The game is still janky even after a year in early access and several small updates. The developer mentions development being paused until funding arrives (that may never happen). While the game does look good, performance is not the best. On my RTX 3080, I was getting variable frame rates from 45-90. I did have DLSS on fastest and anti-aliasing in low. I didn't want to lower textures further though or shadows because I wanted the game to look as good as possible. The gameplay is unintuitive. I had to ask the dev on the steam forums on how to get to the lionfish in the first level. The game includes the first BOW 1 (VR) as part of the prelude, but this game itself apparently only has 3 levels (cull lionfish, underwater cave, and bluehole). So the content is rather limited. You have full locomotion and snap turning on land, with no smooth turning. However, you have smooth turning once you dive underwater. I had trouble opening doors. It took multiple attempts. My biggest pet peeve though is the focused gameplay on finding X number of Lionfish. You're not told how many Lionfish you need to cull. I found 15 of them and couldn't find any more. Then I went back on the boat and the game told me game over. Guess what? You need to start all over again. You're not told how many you need to cull. Your progress isn't marked. From looking at the achievements, I think you need to get 30, but I'm not really sure. Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of fetch quests and finding needles in haystacks. I think finding 10 would be reasonable, with your progress marked. 30 is just going overboard, if that is indeed the case. I have no actual idea. I do know that kind of gameplay makes me not want to continue playing. If the dev focused more on a pleasant underwater experience, this game would be an easy recommend. Instead you're thrown into quests that become chores and diving mechanics that are needlessly obtuse. Isn't this supposed to be a fun, relaxing dive in VR? It already has good visuals and it's already immersive! Dev is taking you away from that for whatever gameplay reason. Rate 5.5/10. Buy on sale or until fully developed!
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. A very interesting concept that makes for a very good fit as a VR title. Packing your breath before diving underwater and donning your goggles and wetsuit makes for a very immersive experience. Unfortunately, this is all heavily marred by the poor design of VR mechanics, slog-like game/level design, and uncharacteristically bad performance. - Your arms/hands do not move the same distance as your motion controllers. They have an amplified motion, seemingly to help with your ability to reach things? But it ends up feeling buggy and immersion breaking - You have smooth turn, but cannot change the speed at which you turn. There is snap turn option, though I never tried it. - The performance, even at minimum settings, is nowhere near what it should be for this level of quality. There are some obligatory optimizations that have not been performed - Having to navigate menus via physical touch instead of a ray compounding with the hand distance issue mentioned prior makes menu navigation a total pain - Doors/hatches do not open as you'd expect. Instead of being based on distance, it is based on velocity, meaning you must yank on any handle. This is very unintuitive. - There is no way to turn TAA off. TAA can often be sub-optimal in VR, though I am not against including it. But no option to turn it off means poor performance along with blurry visuals. Starting the game, I got what I thought was all my equipment, went diving, and repeatedly got forcibly resurfaced before I could reach the ocean floor, with a warning of being too cold. Eventually I found the wetsuit I needed to wear, lying on a table. I get back to diving, and check my status. I must find 30 lionfish. I only have a vague memory of what a lionfish looks like, and was unsure I saw any in my gameplay. Regardless, based off the density of the ocean, movement speed, and other factors, 30 seems like much too high of a number to be done without becoming very bored. I wish the performance was better, and the lionfish requirement was lower, so that I could see more of what this game has to offer. With that said, this developer shows promise with such an interesting concept. And I hope to see them refine their foundational skills regarding VR game development, in order to see a unique, immersive, and performant title in the future!
bom jogo
B.o.W II VR is an immersive underwater adventure that puts you deep beneath the ocean’s surface. Exploring the mysterious underwater world felt atmospheric and exciting. The combination of deep blue water, colorful fish, mysterious surroundings, and the feeling of being surrounded by the ocean creates a strong sense of immersion.
