When I started this game just over a year ago I knew nothing about Axe Cop or the story behind its creation. Thankfully this game does a fantastic job of showcasing every major storyline and character that ever appeared in the series while cleverly tying plot threads together to form a complete and satisfying story that'll appeal to longtime fans and welcome newcomers like myself to the crazy world of AXE COP! The art style for the overworld character sprites gives me major 'Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening & Oracle of Ages/Seasons' vibe and I love it! The game also has a treasure trove of content and a wonderful retro chiptune soundtrack though for the life of me I cannot find the music for this game anywhere on the web. All in all though this is a game made by genuine fans that love everything 'Axe Cop' and it shows BIG TIME. Red Triangle Games did the Nicolle brothers proud. If you enjoy RPGs; GET THIS GAME NOW!
Solid game. Very easy to jump in when i have some free time
This game is so much fun! My son and I love Axe Cop Comics and we've been having a blast exploring through all the lore together. The turn based gameplay brings a lot of depth & strategy, and the dialogue/story is hilarous & engaging. Really well made game and a great developer team. I experienced a glitch, notified the developers and it was fixed within the day.
A great throwback title that harkens to NES game like Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. Highly recommended if you're a fan of JRPGs and Axe Cop! I think there's a little something in it for both groups. I love the fact that there are no random battles.
Disclaimer: I had never seen/heard of the Axe Cop comics or animated series before playing this game. I am now interested in both. I'd say the game's done its job pretty well! Axe Cop as a series is extremely goofy, just by the sheer premise alone - that of two age-divided brothers uniting to deliver the unbridled creativity of a child with the quality artwork and organization of an adult. This game continues that legacy quite well, and if you don't mind a bit of juvenile humor here and there, it can be a laugh riot at times. The promotional screenshots and video have probably already clued everyone in - it's a cop, with an axe, riding a dinosaur with guns for arms. That about sums up what you can expect to see. Even without that absurdly awesome premise, the game holds up on its own really well. It takes a lot of inspiration from NES and Game Boy Color-era RPGs for its visuals and music - the soundtrack is terrific, by the way, a must-hear if you're into chiptune music. Axe Cop takes the charm of that genre and sprinkles in some extra spices to enhance the experience. When you're not seeing colorful characters joke around to progress the plot, you're dropping into isolated levels via a Mega Man-like stage select screen and running around to solve Zelda-ish puzzles, occasionally with the help of party members à la Paper Mario, while enemies spawn on the fly in a way reminiscent of EarthBound. It's just a melting pot of retro-inspired flavors and I love it. Things to watch out for if you're interested: you can't save just anywhere, so you'll want to be prepared when entering new areas. Keyboard controls can feel a little clunky at times, particularly with how Space and Enter seem to function identically, except for when they don't and you have to use the other key. And, as mentioned above, the humor can feel almost cringe-inducingly childish at times, but that's more a property of the game's source material.

If you can embrace this game and accept the odd blemish, you'll have a great time here. Without question, it's a cut or two above your average throwback RPG.
