There should be a warning about how this game was NOT designed for PC. The controls are an abomination, as you cannot bind any mouse buttons or movement to anything. Only keyboard or controller. Very disappointing.
Enjoyment: 8/10
This is the first AoT game I've played, and coming from a Spider-man fan, the mechanics here are arguably even more fun. Honestly I didn't know what to expect before I started. I had strong doubts and figured the movement was gonna be janky considering it's a game developed by Koei Tecmo. I've played many of their anime games before and the gameplay is usually repetitive with some pretty rough animations. It's rare I played one that's actually innovative. And true to that, this game does have the Koei formula with similar elements to the Warriors franchise and the same repetitive loop. That said, I still found the gameplay super fun. The camera and controls felt weird at first but quickly became a lot more natural. Swinging around like the Spider-man games is very satisfying. The difference is that in Spider-man you usually switch from free-roam to a beat 'em up brawler when initiating combat. Here the combat is seamless with the ODM movement where you're killing titans while still moving, which makes the experience a lot more immersive and engaging. The story mode is a summary of Season 1 of the anime. It's a really rough recap so I recommend watching the anime first if you haven't yet. I've seen people say to skip AoT1 and just play AoT2 since the second game has more content, but I wanted to play the games in chronological order anyways. My experience with the first game so far was solid and it's probably one of the most fun Koei games I've played. There were several times where the titans were too close to a wall or house which made slicing their nape a pain, though it's mostly just a minor inconvenience. Game runs flawlessly at 60 fps with the default settings on the Steam Deck. If you're playing on the Steam Deck, just make sure to click "No" to the windows compatibility pop-up when launching the game. Some cutscenes didn't play for me at first but I fixed it by changing the Steam Play Compatibility to GE-Proton10-34. It’s all fun and games until the AI starts riding their horse in circles and you can’t proceed until you go over and push them to get unstuck. If you’re going for 100%, prepare for a tedious grind. (6.5/10)
Beware, only if you are diehard fan of the series, else is a boring ass long haul of a grind if you going to 100%. Targeting parts is mess controller support is a mess I got bored in the 3rd survey area with a the boring mission that ask me to kill 50% of the titan(when u do not need to aim for S ratings) 6/10 game, maybe at 70% and only if you really enjoy
Anime Accurate
Base mechanics turned out to be way better than I'd expected, not bad for an anime game.
runs like ass
love the game, it really feels like flying around with the ODM gear yourself.
cool game but after killing 200 titans in an hours play it gets old quick, and just keeps going and going
