The crab He left the ocean Yes YES The crab is out 10/10!!!! Serious review below: Gameplay: VERY solid. Balanced mechanics with enough to do, and something new/different is introduced with each additional level, keeping it fresh til the end. Each additional level adds more difficulty but not such that its too hard to continue. Controls well, and you can easily re-check the controls at any given time through the pause menu. The UI and options feel quite robust and I was not left wanting whenever I looked for a particular setting (although you can expect it to be simple). Lots of QoL stuff in my opinion, like hints and dialogue boxes that you can opt out of. Sound effects were a little loud at times (the destruction of electric poles especially) but still decent. Destruction of the environment is easy and feels great. You can knock into buildings and they wobble, you can destroy other stuff by virtue of walking into it. You can throw boats and certain cars/trees (have not checked everything). Three powerups/boost options, and they don't just make gameplay more fun - they're a necessity to balance staying alive and level progress. Actually had to retry a few levels to get a better idea of how to use them, and I mean this in a good way, as in, it actually has some challenge to it. The only remote complaint I could have is some areas are way too open/sparce, but that almost feels like part of the mechanics (as in, manage your resources), just not completely balanced out. Graphics & Art: It's a bit in the raw, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Everything looks how I'd expect with the games premise, if that makes sense. Screenshots from store page accurate, and I tried to upload some of my own to the community workshop too (my settings are at the lowest of the low though). Loved the use of what looked like stock images for character dialogue. If you have a problem with how this game looks then I have a problem with you. Story: Short and simple, some humorous dialogue about environmentalism, but it doesn't miss. Wish I could also be a giant crab destroying city planners for unfriendly urban design and excessive pollution. Has mid-level popup dialogue that's funny too. How it runs: Uhhh... So my normal computer is down due to moving recently, so I bought & played this on my decade-old laptop. My specs are basically half of everything recommended at the minimum. I only have 4gb RAM, single core, etc. and my laptop was very upset at me the whole time, but I was able to run it AND beat it and still enjoy myself (with some frustration with my lag). So, if you computer is literally ANYTHING remotely better, you'll be able to play this completely fine. It has multiple graphics settings (low end to ultra high iirc) and built-in resolution switching as well as windowed/fullscreen. Changing any of these does NOT require a game restart either. Overall: Very endearing game. Loved playing it. Actually reminded me of the joy I felt when I played Katamari Damacy, especially the last level of the first game, where everything feels so open and you can just go ham. Wished there had been more levels! Will be replaying later to have the full experience on my normal computer & finish out the achievements. Please play the crab game.
crab oh he go
For anyone who loves Kaiju movies, for anyone who played "Rampage" on the NES when they were kids, for anyone who appreciates the simple joys of destroying a city as a giant monster, this game is for you. Join the Giant Crab on a journey to save the planet from environmental and ecological collapse, and learn what sinister forces are pushing humanity to that point in the first place. The Giant Crab isn't the hero we deserve, but he's (she's?) the hero we need.
This game is crabtastic. Attack of the Giant Crab is a better than expected city destruction game. Overall the game is fun to play but has of course dated graphics the rest is superb in terms of gameplay, mission objective, camera angle and combat.
crabby
When you load up a game called Attack of the Giant Crab, you should have a pretty strong idea of what's in store, and, boy, does this one deliver. The crab is several stories tall, the dialogue is so on the nose the writer's cheek must have been made entirely out of tongue, and you can shoot crab lasers at mechanical chickens the size of high rises. All that ridiculousness does come with the expected level of jank though. The camera did not seem to want to cooperate, electing instead to focus on the crab's posterior most of the time, as it crawled about at a painfully slow rate. Even with plenty of speed powerups, I couldn't get into the scuttling groove I was hoping for, though the Realistic Crab Movement setting did force me to accept the 'sideways is forward' form of locomotion at least. It doesn't help that there's no soundtrack to ease those long, empty moments between city centers either. I may not be rushing back because of it, but no amount of design flaws would have ever stopped me from enjoying the hour and a half Attack of the Giant Crab demands. There's not much to the experience, it's just so satisfying to march over a collection of sooty factories and sprawling developments, knowing it's for a good cause. That promise was all I needed to sign on, but the final act twist was an absolute B-movie cherry on top.
