Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea DX is a mixed bag. The game shines in its combat, which I felt was the most evolved and fun in the series. The ability to seamlessly switch between the backcast and main combat styles makes for a truly engaging experience. The character designs are also a highlight, and the world itself is beautifully crafted. I also really enjoyed some of the comedic bits, with the alchemy process probably being the best of the whole Dusk trilogy. However, while the game has some strong points, it's held back by its weaknesses. The characters, overall, aren't nearly as strong as previous entries in the series. You don't feel the same attachment to them. But the worst part, by far, is the plot. It's extremely bland and then gets really confusing at points. I feel the reliance on info-dumping the lore was a terrible way to tell the story. It made the narrative feel clunky and uninspired. Ultimately, this is one of the weaker games in the series for me, but it still has its enjoyable moments. It's a game that could have been great if the story and characters had been given more care. While it has some of the best combat in the series, it's not enough to overcome the frustrating narrative. I'd give it around a 6.5 to 7 out of 10. It's a game that will likely appeal to fans who enjoy the core mechanics and aesthetic of the series, but it's not a standout title. Very very light recommend.
🎮 Reseña de Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea DX

Rendimiento7Edición DX generalmente estable y disfrutable.

It was pretty neat. I like how early you get free replacement for your bombs etc but the bs you have to go through to build worthwhile equipment is rather dumb (as in every Dusk game). The usable items also seemed a bit weird with many of the unique character items having a small area of effect while every enemy group was like 4+ enemies. Just felt a bit off. The story was nice though, the music was good as always. The characters were likeable but the new ones really didn't get much of a chance to shine. Not a fan of keeping true end locked behind NG+ but it's just a minor alteration to the already existing end anyway.
Ok atelier game. The story is admittedly the worst, being too short and really obvious. Since their are no character endings all side characters are a little one sided beyond the characters from previous games, which are admittedly over half the cast. The world is very linear and their are no side stories like finding hotsprings or make the ultimate pie or drink for the main characters either. However it has my favorite battle system of the older games and the crafting is a little simpler than most ateliers which is a good and bad thing.
Would definitely recommend if you enjoyed Escha & Logy or at least liked the story. If you haven't played Escha & Logy, play that instead. Ayesha is a plus. This entry is like Escha & Logy and you have two protagonists to choose from, but unlike Escha & Logy, there two protagonists' story line have consideraby differences. If you don't want or unsure if you'll play NG+, then I'd recommend playing as Shallistera. A quick playthrough would probably take ~40-60 hours, depending on how quick you skip through the story and how serious your OCD is, or how much of a completionist of you are. I completed pretty much everything in ~200 hours (first time getting platinum).

Atelier Shallie is one of the best games I've played in a long time, only beaten by 2 other Ateleir games I like a little more. There is so much to praise about Atelier Shallie, the dual main characters are both fun, and since one campain of the game is half as long as Escha and Logy, playing the second campain is not much of an issue at all. The first quarter of the game is fully unique, and the rest has enough differing moments to make playing the other campain still fun. There also really isn't a miss in the new cast members. Miruca and Jurie are a fun duo, Homuna is great, and as I said the protagonists are also really good, better then Escha and Logy. To add to that, just the right amount of old characters return, unlike Meruru where it felt like every Joe Schmuck could appear. This includes the previous protagonists, which all retain their charm, Keithgriff who still is the stubborn dad as ever, Solle who still manages to be surprisingly good, and more great Wilbell moments then I can count. (Seriously I have become obsessed with her. This is becoming unhealthy, she steals the show in every cutscene she's in. That one cutscene where Shallotte comforts her, perfect that's what's great about these games.) Altough this almost became a small problem in my second campain. The devs knew how popular Wilbell is relative to the dusk series, and she's by a long shot my favorite character from the it, maybe even overall in the Atelier franchise, but it kinda feels like they overused her just a little. Since Shalistera has her own supporting cast of new characters, it stands out that Shalotte mainly interacts with a fan favorite, and not her own new characters. It kinda just feels like fanservice of a popular character. It doesn't annoy me to much, again I like her a lot, but I can't imagine people who dislike Wilbell having a good time when she continueisly pops up in Shalotte's story. Their connection is nice, but as Odellia proved, to many sweets can give you cavities, and this comes really close to that. Still love her though. Continuing on with the positives, The synthisis in Atelier Sahllie is also one of the most introquite ones. It took some time to get used to, but it was really fun when I got the hang of it. The story is great, battle animations have pretty much reached modern comparibillity, there is just so much to praise. This is also the first game since Iris 2 to not have any real kind of time limit, and I do have to say that you can kinda tell that a time limit was intended to be here at the start. It wouldn't take much effort to implement it into the game, and since it soon will be gone entirely, I do kinda wish it was here to keep the Dusk series consistend. Definitly play this game if you like the other Dusk games. It sits neatly at third place now in my ranking, maybe second if you ask me on a different day, Ayeshea was just a tad better, and gets to keep first place. 9/10
My first Atelier game. Kinda fun and not a super hard game, need some grinds tho.
