This is a pretty fantastic game. As you can see from my playtime, I finished it until the current end of the content. Having experienced everything the game has to offer, I give my review. You play as a cyborg in a world know as the Asura's Valley. This place is ruled by the Asura King, a man who encourages his people to hunt "new borns," cyborgs who recently appear in the valley. These new borns are weak and easy to kill, and you're one of them. The people here are violent, mechanical beings that kill each other for spare parts, as these Asura cannot heal themselves normally as humans can. Also, every enemy has a unique power they drop, adding to the incentive they have to hunt you. You customize your character and engage in several duels without various hunters, soldiers approved by the Asura King. The hunters have a variety of different weapon types and fighting styles, and you obtain their weapon and ability when you defeat them. Eventually, you're forced into a tournament against various other teams for a chance to become a citizen of Asura city. Upon victory, you set out to recruit party members and fight the Asura King. Eventually, after defeating all of the King's special soldiers, you face the Asura King. He's unusually powerful and has the ability to transform himself multiple times. Upon killing him, you become the Asura King and are allowed to change something about the valley. Then, the game allows you to play a new game +. This time, you're the King you just defeated, and now you quest to defeat your previous character, who has taken over. The game provides a lot of replay value and challenges. There are added special bosses on the second and third play through, as well as consequences for hunting the local animals. It's possible to grind hard on chickens for example and make them go extinct in the valley. The game is very challenging and provides a lot of choices to the player, some better than others. The key to winning is to find the most overpowered strategy you can and exploit it ruthlessly. Your first teammate, Peach, has an ability that puts all enemies to sleep and she can use it 3 times per battle. Having Sani focus on doing heavy damage to one single target while the others remain unconscious lets you win fights you'd normally never manage. Peach also has the parasitic seed ability, which if you press left a few times, can target every enemy at once and cause all of them to have their health siphoned when they end their turns. My favorite combo had to do with axes. There's an ability called exploit weakness which gives you a bonus of your agility divided by your opponents, times your weapon damage. The real power comes from when your agility is significantly higher than your opponent's. There's another ability called giant killer which gives you a bonus for attacking enemies who are at full health. By pumping up your agility by every means available, then using spin slash, you can kill entire enemy parties in one blow. There's another ability that raises your damage when your health is low. Combined with the above, you hurt people even more. Agility in general is a pretty powerful stat, because it gets you more turns in combat. You can actually get 2 turns to your opponent's every 1. It's things like this that let you take advantage of your enemies. The earthquake, boom shine and resplendence spells are all insanely good as they hit every enemy and can do some serious damage and inflict status effects. There's a man in Tank Village who drops an ability called Triumphant Return. It's easily one of the most valuable powers in the game, as it allows you to hunt chickens and bees, and upon winning, you recover a percentage of your health. This completely obsoletes healing items and makes it so you'll be able to sell those for money to buy equipment and magic. The game's negatives are that very little is explained. There isn't much of a story. There are also a lot of bad choices with equipment and abilities that can frustrate players. The translation isn't very good, but it's readable. There are a few weapons for sale that haven't had their descriptions translated into english. If you don't know the correct equipment choices, you can easily get stuck on an enemy. For example, shield users can easily be beaten by throwing magic around. Guns, weapons that don't break shield, heavy armor that slows you down...all of these choices means a shield guy can eat you for lunch. The gunman who you win Triumphant Return off of also has an aimed fire skill which can casually 1 shot you, unless you have that skill that lets you survive on 1 HP. The game also rewards you for buffing up and empowering 1 character and letting the others sit back and cast spells. There's no incentive to actually do anything for characters other than the main one. Towards the end game, you still lack powers. There's not enough for everyone, even in the third year. It would be so nice if the game just let you pick both powers when defeating someone, or added more optional hunters. I only saw one new hunter in year 2 and no more after that, though there were demons and various bosses. The other negative that makes party members less useful is that they don't have the weapon skills you earned from your previous battles, so giving them new equipment that they didn't start with makes them less effective. The mechanic of letting the player fight their previous character is a nice touch, but it's easy to skip around. I haven't done it, but you could easily just unequip all your useful abilities and give them to someone else. I like a challenge, so I always played it legit. My character on the second playthrough did a spin attack which killed everyone on my team at once. It took multiple tries to finally kill him, where I eventually just shotgunned him down. Would I recommend this game? Yes. There's no other RPG maker games out there and the powers and setting are intriguing. While the game has some flaws, it's still playable and can provide you some hours of challenge and enjoyment.
