The clunkyness sucks away all drive for me to play the game. Maybe if this is your first factory game and you do not know better, you can enjoy this. If you played Factorio or Satisfactory, you will hit a brick wall of clunk. You will ask yourself questions about how to split items on belts, which is not explained. The idea is interesting, but the user interface requires you lots of buttons or different pannels and tools and different key combinations. This game could learn a lot from satisfactory, where the UI experience is smooth and enjoyable and even adds to the character of the game.
If you are only going to play single player, then I would give this game a thumbs up. However if you are going to play with your spouse on the same network in the same house, expect to disconnect and reconnect every 30 min due to desync. I can 'not recommend' this game enough due to the desync. My wife and I are sitting in the same room and for me a conveyor belt is full, for her it is empty she has to relog. She will have stuff in her inventory but unable to use it until she relogs. Her PC is almost identical to mine, instead of a 3080 ti, she has the 2080 ti. All other parts are identical. This is very unacceptable for a 1.0 release. TLDR: Single player good, coop bad.
Great potential, but not a 1.0. It's technically playable, but this game is so unpolished it makes caltrops look smooth. Combine that with a gameplay loop that is super short and trivial, it's not worth spending any money on, and only worth spending time if you want to mess around for a couple hours with friends. It's a cool concept, but it's largely derivative and the developers clearly have no idea what makes the concepts they're copying good
It's not 1.0. It's undercooked and was likely only pushed to 1.0 to escape the Early Access tag. Don't buy iwhtout checking the discussion forums to see if it's actually stable and working as intended.
As i look through the reviews, i was wondering why it said 'mixed' reactions recently, then i read the recent reviews... the mixed reactions are caused by 'latency issues' for 1 of them, but the other negatives i saw (didnt read through most but got a pretty decent idea) was mainly people who didn't pay attention to things in the game itself, like one person complained about how expensive things were and how they had energy issues... before i started a new colony i hooked up like 3 planets to my base, flattened them with the terrain tool (mass flattening without manual effort when using also good for mass resource collection) then i had literally a whole planet flattened and made into quite literally a giant solar panel planet to deliver energy, separate from my completely enclosed full giant ship sized solar panel system ON the ship, i get their concern but there is so many options to build and power it just takes time and factory setup (auto asteroid catchers fed with logic blocks and smelters to auto progress into storage zones with delivery bots to pass through everything) it was so easy that you just realize its only early game issues occur and thats mainly caused by user error and poor decision making. then the next one about the person who cannot read the tech tree... literally it says in the tech tree some things unlock in the second universe... smh... overall the game is pretty decent, the tutorial bots good for a starting world to learn the controls but once you get the basics make a new world and just don't enable tutorial (the bots kinda annoying even after turning it off) while i haven't played mp yet, the sp version is quite nice and well structured, has lots of options and for the genre its very well designed as its basically a mining and colony game which focuses more on the building and mining not the societal management more about resource management, kinda wish we could adjust the height and width of oxygen fields by adding more oxygen packs (this review is not based on the experimental 1.0) Edit - More details The majority of the game is still the same in the latest updates, the oxygen gen can be expanded so my prior concern was not valid, there is now storms which are a bit of a pain to deal with but the biggest issue with those is... how do they phase through solid blocks, like i made a multi layer ship, common sense would dictate 'if its enclosed and has no access to the outside it should not be affected by storms which require direct touch' Dust storms are one thing, because dust can get anywhere, but electric storms? how can they phase through 1-2 floorings to reach items far below it, same for meteor rains... none of that makes sense, they should be a targeting type, 'attempt to hit x, if hits floor/wall disolve and do nothing' cause if you cant build through walls and floors then things shouldnt be able to harm through them. (mild annoyance but not a major issue, still a good game)
It's a very well made made automation game from a solo dev who's very dedicted. I bought it some years ago and with every early access game i played it almost every major update. It evolved quite nice, you can play it chill you can play it fast if you want(up to 4x time is built in so no trainer or cheats needed). Progress up to this latest Patch to this review is streamlined and is up to other automation games. Thi sgame has no "enemies" but events that disprupt your machines. Can't say anything about multiplayer, but as a solo player it has everything you would need from an automation, exploration and crafting game.(For ref. i'm also have played: Factorio, Satisfactory, Enshrouded, ARK both versions, Avarion, Astroneer, Space Engeneers, No Mans Sky, Planet Crafter, Star Rapture, just to name a few)
One of the best automation games out there. If you enjoy Subnautica, Satisfactory, or Factorio, you'll feel right at home here. Astro Colony takes the core loop those games nail — build, automate, optimize — and puts its own spin on it. The key thing to know going in: this is a game that rewards good planning. If you throw things together haphazardly, it can feel a little grindy. But once you set your systems up correctly and watch everything process smoothly on its own, that's where the real fun kicks in. Getting that satisfying, self-sustaining flow going is what kept me coming back. Definitely pick this one up — you won't regret it.
dont recognise myself in the negative reviews, so far it has been great :)
this is very nice and relaxing sandbox game, it is also well optimized. options here are limitless and freedom is in every aspect of the game. i really do not understand why people trash it by own reviews, I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes to build stuff and manage/convert resources into shiny things. --- edit after 28h: this game is a MUST HAVE
