Most based game in the series.

Nota 8.5/10
Nice! Quote: "Remember that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Probably worth a google?"
Perfect middle ground between AC3 and Black Flag. Does not have multiplayer which is sad but also great for achievement hunters. I've had some weird frame-drops but I think that might be an issue related to my smart monitor switching modes. No micro-transactions or DLC required. As an old Ubisoft game it does require you to have Ubisoft Connect as the DRM/Cloud-save solution. Overall a great experience. 8/10.
Whenever you want to distinguish Assassin's Creed games you always resort to such bland dialogue like 'This one you can scale walls smoother' or 'This one you play as a Templar!'. Rogue is perhaps the biggest offender in the mainline entries, serving as a Black Flag 1.5. It was (arguably) excusable for the Ezio trilogy as they were one big story, but here you are left with a 10 hour narrative — a third of that travelling — that tries to add nuance to the Templars through contrivance after contrivance. It's a failed execution of a fun concept, one that deserved the full force of the Ubisoft Machine. As always, the historical aspect is excellent; the Seven Years War backdrop does a lot for me, the Avengers theme played in my head every time Cook or Washington showed up. If the gameplay loop and wide focus were as tight as the first game I would have more than 20 second intervals of being immersed. When it does work — when the snowstorms are coming through the screen, the fog of cannon fire obscuring whatever you've just unleashed hell upon, ships battling against the wrath of the ocean — it's glorious, simply glorious. Take away the HUD, take away the contracts and the animal hunts and the bloat. Take it all away, and you've got a swashbuckling story meshed with the strong foundation of history. I'm grasping at the silver lining, but every game I slip a little further towards the ocean. And the ocean is getting ever so big.
