I never would've guessed this series had no tie in with the actual toys, or with Toy Story. Somehow as a kid I always assumed Toy Story acquired the rights to the Army Men toys and then this franchise used the same type of licensing deal for their own franchise of games. Nope. Somehow this has absolutely nothing to do with the actual toys and was allowed to exist regardless. It was actually designed based on the plastic toys to avoid German censorship at the time, oddly enough. Considering Command & Conquer needed to have all the people turned into robots, they wanted to come up with something out the gate that didn't require multiple versions of the game. Weird considering it's an American company that was started by the guy who owned EA. I guess German markets were still large enough in gaming that this was a concern out the gate.
A timeless classic. A tad of a shame there is no remake in the works. (Perhaps one, one day, will be in production?) Oh, and concerning the review, if you are new to the series or the game, it is great, but the controls need tweaking and getting used to.
I didn't play the game that long but after figuring out the controls, OMG this game is good! I truly love it and I didn't expect the gameplay to stick. I recommend buying this game and yes it works well on Windows 11 64bit

I thought this game was an rts, also it looks so bad on steam deck, like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and in windows the screen will not show you the map properly till either you pause or a solders walks over it
This game is everything the old one was. And you STILL can play against the Bots via Multiplayer.
I received the original game in "battle chest" that had Army Men 2 and Toys in Space from a cousin. It was a Christmas gift I received on Christmas Eve, and that cousin died the same night. When I installed the game the following night, the game somehow already had pre-created profiles named after myself and my brother. I couldn't explain it, nor was I able to recreate that incident. Anyways, tragic and slightly spooky story aside, the game still works on Windows 11. Alt+Tab doesn't work (according to the readme, it causes crashes). But the game itself works. It's not a terribly deep or amazing game, but it may hold nostalgic value for some people like myself. It's kind of like a top-down 2D version of the N64 Army Men game. The sequel and Toys in Space is a lot better. ALSO, one of the Steam reviews mentions that this is missing the multiplayer component, but it is infact still there.
One of the greatest games ever made. Still holds up today!
Great late 90s action game. Loved it as a kid. Its one of those games Get GUD but its fun. if you want to start playing any of the Army men games not a bad place to start
